don't mind me, just having a listen, haven't listened to these in years ~ actually featuring me on [sampled] vocals. then there's a preset patch on the VS that El-P used somewhere, possibly on that little yellow prophet reboot i know he has ~ i had sampled some french-canadian guy talking in, well, french, about lady gaga's meat dress -- current topic that day -- and i've mapped Q1 on the MPC1000 to pitch and i'm just fussing with it, and suddenly i'm getting english lyrics out of it ...said you need DRUGS [something] oooh get a-way-high, get a moveon, then freakout, ahahaha then we're cutting into flying into the windows xp bliss.jpg field, flying with are cows with no legs. then back into the beat it _is_ drugs. fillerup fillerup unmeat, on me, etc. that i think i made this in like 45 minutes and i clearly remember that being my subjective experience at the time, cows and all |

pareidolia. seeing forms in the clouds. that i got into a headspace with the Q1-2 sliders where, i dunno, a feedback loop between what i'm hearing in the clouds, parameter changes, that essentially amplifies it out of misheard psychedelic nonsense into... something that may not work at all if you speak french; i rather like that. they'd be quite offended i'm sure |

~ tony danza will be pleased to know the intensely dissociative sample spinner was something i crafted in reaktor. i ran reaktor on its own dedicated laptop, then i mapped the novation remote to the knobs, then i closed the laptop lid and that was actually enough for it to play nice with the real hardware. |

~ i wanted to do the coin sky bonus level from super mario 3, and so i did general sense of falling continually [you know how mario 3 does that for some, er, cinematic sequences]. i am happy with the piano riff, it makes you think of mario 3 without actually cribbing from it, really. it's the casio, and it's also those anthro clouds with faces mario 3 has. then the ef303 -- it's 303 mode is very nasal -- through some reverb, dootdattadoot, punching in a spiral pattern like someone working on a four-function calculator. some mangled sample noise kind of... shaped around the other things, but also to add a sense of falling. general tactical sense of reverb throughout there's the suction-creating warped sample, as you're falling, falling, the ef-303 spiraling off somewhere far below, then the piano riff kicks in and you're floating down past those clouds, which are moving at a slightly different rate i should do another like this sometime. i could make it much more dynamic now |

just a strange... well, why am i doing that? i'm not even listening to cloud party (previous post) and thinking of the ef303 way down below and i find myself... mouselooking around? and what? i usually don't... do that... ...and i realized, i was playing lots of CS:Source when i wrote that, and some people on the watmm IRC channel were getting me to try CS:Surf and i think that really had something to do with how i wrote it! |

~ i did post this on soundclot and discuss it before, but here it is again; you can have it in 320k or whatnot with none of their shit. that i do need to get an album of these together story, anyways: in a bit of a mood one day and i essentially walk up to the gear, turn the computer on, start turning the gear on, start the computer recording as soon as it's done, only some of the gear on, then recorded this. it is a stock yamaha dx200 pattern, but... well, to say i impart some motion to it is like saying a stallion has a cock. just rather furiously... muting and unmuting the four parts (1 DX7, 3x sample drum trax) and turn all. the. knobs and then i've the mixer's internal FX out run back into channel 1 so i can feed it back on myself, and... you know, turn all. the. EQ. etc along with jobbing the mixer's fx itself, and... fuck... midway through, i have to run around the table to turn on the TC electrix warp factory and it was so excruciating to me because i wanted it right. now. and this is dfjkgdf so when i got back around the right side of the table i was even more enthusiastic about all the things. good day |
