How does aphex make his music ? He is making much of his
songs entirely on his computer, so what programs does he use
? Where can i get them ? And from where does he get all his
sounds ?

When he began, he built his own equipment from scratch. It
wasn't until ICBYD that he started writing music on
computer. He uses his own programs.

There was a good thread about this over at Planet-Mu a few
days ago...check this thread out...

The general consensus is that he's more or less entierly
computer-based nowdays...uses ProTools + loads of
plugins...kyma...MAX/MSP...SuperCollider...

Traktor for DJing nowdays...used to use ProTools..

Check the thread for more detail...

i have no fucking clue. i used to think he wrote programs
that wrote music for him or the programs would make music
from like the sounds he would input and teach it how to make
one then he would let it run and viola new sound. since he
wrote the program to put together songs he technically wrote
them himself.

one of his fav. programs is Steinberg's Re-cycle and I know
he used/uses Pro Tools at one time or another but other than
that he uses his own software and equipment to the extent of
my knowledge, I personaly use My CS1x, Pro Tools, Cubasis
InWired, and Audacity. All of which you can download for
free.

i heard that aphex has a production company in korea. it's
full of low paid slave workers constructing his next
release.

i heard that that thing about making his own stuff is total
b.s. he just said that to further his mystique... all he did
was but tape and shit over this 808 and made it look like he
wired a bunch of stuff together... all fake.

Yeah, I don't think he creates his own software now...
there's just too much good software available.

You could design a program to CREATE programs, that would be
crazy.

now he uses a laptop probably the best MAC like the G4 and i
bet he uses REAKTOR software and some software he made up or
someone made up that you cant buy. In the past he has used
Roland tr 707, tr 808, Tr 909drummachines & other hardware &
samplers. He used to modify hardware. He's just really
good at finding sounds and sampling them and encorporating
that into the song. for example putting a microphone in a
cupboard kicking the cupboard with your foot and using the
sample as a drum kick. He is also a very good composer,
writing music on piano etc.

To nhiiq : You know on some keyboards how they have the two
wheels on the left side for Modulation and pitch bend.
Aphex twin didnt invent that but he did modify a keyboard to
have Modulation and he controlled it with a fork. like a
fork you eat off of. He went to electronics school and
learned how to make circuits for his own effects and how to
write computer software, after he learned what he need for
making music he was done.

ways they're not normally used.

by making his own programs i'm sure he means with max/ msp
or supercolider/ or c-sound... i hardly believe that he
codes his own entire programs....

"hello world"

...this hardware crap is all bs... i'm sure he embelished it
a great deal.

i wouldnt be suprised if he doesnt really make his own
hardware but i wouldnt be suprised if he does. he seems
like a smart guy.
although ive taken random electronic devices and "circuit
bent" them with absolutely no knowledge of what i was doing
and achieved some interesting sounds. so maybe he just
tweaks little toys and makes sounds, and exagerates what he
has done.

it's not so hard to modify old synth and drummachines...
look on the net for mods for the tr-606, rdj's a big fan of
it and he may have mod it himself.
i got one of those
<-----------
it's old and easy to repair/modify...
it isn't bullshit entirly, and he said he built an fx box,
wich i think you can see on this site

I like the idea he had of making an album of all the fake
Aphex Twin songs on the internet. He joked that Druqks was
exactly that in an interview before it came out.
