no, no, the prodigy did that. people were all: whoa,
techno can be deep and psychedelic like rock and not just
dunst. dunst.?

what aphex did was blow that up and point out it could go
further than psyrock could

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2016-08-13 03:22 [#02501926]
Points: 25264 Status: Regular

to your average yoke, i mean. anyone who didn't do any more
than "listen to techno sometimes." those deeply into it
thought the prodigy was fantastic but knew this pile of
anorak robot data over here already and etc.

aphex is more about what it took to have owen wilson
listening to drukqs in some movie while taking bong rips.
before aphex, that probably would have been prodigy

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2016-08-13 03:24 [#02501927]

what was it that the person on watmm said? the one who
pointed out the owen wilson thing in some thread circa 2009?
oh, yes. "whoa, that aphex twin sounds like someone put a
bunch of noises in a bag and shook them up mang"

it's fun to try and put context to the windowlicker press
line: "oh, i was bored one day and i tossed this parody of a
prodigy song for a laugh." talking out of my ass, here, but
i sort of suspect it took more than a saturday afternoon. i
also suspect it was less of a parody and more of a
deliberate missile programmed to napalm prodigy's market
segment. my second guess is that all of his explanation was
made up; he got the idea when someone mistook it for prodigy
after it was already out for mastering etc

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2016-08-13 03:33 [#02501929]

i got into aphex after someone uploaded illegal aphex mp3s
to my illegal ratio ftp server. i loved that. it was equally
brilliant and shit at the same time. first aphex tracks
along with the most atrocious screamo metal from some
mexican band that died of delerium tremens years ago.

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2016-08-13 03:36 [#02501930]

bucephalis bouncing ball or laughable butane bob feel like
they've been in my head the longest, but i got a whole batch
of loose tracks at once. perhaps from multiple people. if i
wanted to get into it i could go pull up text files with
dumps of the create/mod dates. i do not want to get more
into it.

oh, yes, i also had ~techno tetris~ and the blade techno
opener. ground zero and that one was right in there,
trolling me. took me probably five years before i realized
it was "confusion" by new order. confusion indeed

the top 30 is a great way to approach the records, but its
too limitative, you cannot select 30 in a few weeks and say
the rest is shit, you make a new pair of ears each time
