i stopped reading google news two weeks or so after that ebola nonsense started, no joke. it's just rotten to the core. first, take something that could, theoretically happen, but almost certainly won't. next, hand that to profiteering attention barons like alex jones and self-righteous twats like anderson cooper. roll it all up in a red sauce of media consolidation to the point of monopoly. feed this shit burrito to a populace who has become uneducated cattle -- years of politicians promising to cut taxes, and cutting schools to cut taxes, creating a spiral of stupid that makes the populace progressively easier to exploit -- and, yeah. fuck the news. that shit ain't news. it's disaster porn and emotional manipulation, with mcdonald's ads in between. even the ads don't give a fuck any more; don't bother to make any point. warm fuzzy vibes with no actual selling points. really, they're like thomas kinkade paintings... spiritual valium; lethean warmth to soothe christian housewives: ebola! ebola! then: oh, it's ok, have a burger, you will feel better bottom line: don't go to sierra leone and lick a toilet, and you should manage to dodge the ebola bullet. |
