Squarepusher needs to automate his autism wank music with
algorithms. Then again I need to automate my autism wank
posts with algorithms. The universe won't be complete until
there are no souls or natural intelligence left, just cold
calculating algorithms pretending to be alive.

I respect your opinion, but I wholeheartedly disagree.

I think Stefan Molyneux would call The Chinese Room a
deepity.

i've always loved that analogy. i prefer to visualize it
like this:

you spell out a sentence to be translated from english to
chinese in a felt-lined box with ivory-faced, wooden tiles.
32x32 squares, an individual hole for each. then you hand it
to the interface monk, along with the proper tokens (a
donation) and the tray is given to the first assembly line
worker. he does not speak english. instead, he just
rearranges some of the tiles; replaces one or two with some
from a bin, and passes it to the next man. you watch this
through a plexiglass window.

the next man does the same thing. and the next man, and the
next. eventually, you get bored of following along, and
leave. a day later, you come back, and are give your
translation, copied onto a slip of bamboo paper with an ink
quill from the final tray.

i suppose consciousness is like one of the workers getting
bored and deciding to experiment by swapping a tile or two
wrong.

Squarepusher is a sad fellow. Pretty clever and skilled,
with a good ear, yet no soul. He hit the mark on the
off-occasion in his early days though.
