new (face of) autechre

i recently downloaded two tracks, supposedly off of the new
ep8.
i have to say, if these are the real tracks, then the new
face of autechre is pretty bad, in my eyes.

i really dig the old sound of autechre (tri repetae and
envane).

these mp3s are annoying.
they are very cluttered.

am i the only one that thinks this?
if i am, then can you please tell me what they are trying to
show me?

i'm not trying to bad mouth autechre completely, they are
still one of my favorite electronic artists. its just to
me, this sound that they evolved to, doesn't sound all that
great.

i think it sounds great... its all about the person man, the
older autechre stuff is the more it seems too bore me,
whereas you must be vice versa... maybe autechre are making
shit? but in my eyes, i think its awesome, so hehe who knows
:)

just wait a couple of days.... i never liked any ae when
hearing it for the first few times. they have a very strong
"growing effect" for me, it took me 2 weeks to get
intoconfield. it started with- well that pen expers track is
not that bad, and #9 neither- and the other day i loved
it...

maybe you have a more evolved approach to music than me.

this is interesting.
i wonder if tastes in music go along with charles darwin's
theories.

i was the same way with squarepusher's music is one rotted
note.

i really think the album is groovy now.

I like the tracks ,they are very experimental and crazy.
Good headphones music.

I think their album will have something for everybody to
like.
Relax.
And if not there are hundreds of good AE clones out there to
listen to.

i'm not too worried about this, most people hated confield
when if first came out, now everyone loves it.

If anything its a good sign that you dont like it : )

if that makes sense at all...

oh well i thought it did,

when people first heard confield everyone said how crap it
was but now they love it... hopefully it will be the same
with the new ae

than again it may not : (

months ago.

I agree... Gantz Graf is hard to get into because I can't
find a rythmic element, although the sound from like 3
minutes on are kool. I wonder how they structured the song,
and when to layer certain sounds, because although it seems
chaotic there is definitely order to it. Still, I don't
think I'll be giving it that much rotation.

I think they've made a great demonstration of what you can
do with sound and strange ways of sequencing. Their work is
pioneering new ground in the same fashion as for example
Raymond Scott did in the 50s, using techniques which aren't
fully developed and understood yet. Autechre are ahead of
their time and most of us need some time to adjust to it...

I will give it some time.

Gantz Graf is shit. Cap.IV is ok, haven't heard the others.

thanks to people like AE theres always something interesting
to listen to/explore further....wouldn't have em any other
way...

Anyone with AIM willing to send the Autechre tracks to me?
I have a cable connection! I can never find them through my
audio finding programs! :(
I desperately want the new Autechre--I feel left out!

offline grinningcat from london (United Kingdom) on 2002-04-14 19:02 [#00173962]
Points: 1073 Status: Lurker

yeah, gantz graf IS shit. I mean ok i can appretiate a
fucking mess if it has some substance, i.e. the last track
off confield is great because of the way it progresses and
evolves. but gantz graf is definately and Autechre outtake,
no one can say its like one of the best tracks they've ever
done!! can they?!

cap iv sounds much better, from what ive downloaded of it,
and dial i still have to get......

Nevermind about my previous request for an AIM transfer--I'm
getting it from the 'net now, thanks!
I'm having a great day--New Autechre means more smiles for
Luke! :)

cap.iv & dial are stronger tracks than GG to these ears...GG
seems an odd one to lead an EP with...

It's been a good weekend tho...New AE always puts a spring
in my step...:)..

like any Autechre EP, it is a hint of the next album and a
close to the previous.

i love Cap.iv, its very fast, ripping, and loud.

if you dont like this EP then you will probably not like the
next album very much at all :(

and how is there no rhythm in gantz graf? there is a
consistent tempo throughout the entire song.

diastole: lol, u recognised my screenname. I didnt actually
hear 'zero', that was susumu's 'house' stuff wasn't it?
Sakura was better than Grinning Cat; i just thought
grinningcat made for a more interesting name! 'magic thread'
and the other one before Sakura are also supposed to be
wicked though.

After first listen I was sad and disappointed. I'm
listening to GG and loving it! I'm kind of worried, I
shouldn't like it after the second listen, but I love it! I
can't wait to buy it and blast it on the stereo.

Is there only 3 tracks on there. Sounds like another Peel
Session CD.

OK, don't find me wierd, but I find Gantz Graf very cool, I
know it's not that Autechre'ish, but the drum tweaking is
awesome, although the song is missing some melodies.

finally listened to ep8. it's really REALLY R E A L L Y
amazing!!!! it's the first time that an ae release has such
an immediate positive impact on me. all 3 tracks are
perfect, especially cap.iv, it's packed with melodies. now,
when's that dvd coming out?!

and does anyone know how to measure the bpm on tracks?
cap.iv must send that meter through the roof at the end!
how fast is that?

cortex - you can use the Beat Detector in winamp's AVS, its
a handy tool

i've tried ,and i cannot enjoy "dial"
its like being poked in the rear side of your head with a
pool cube

amonbrune:
peel 1 was released before ep7, so i guess it wasn't
considered as an actual ep. so the new ep would be the 8th
ep indeed ;)

cygnus:
thanks. ill try to figure out how to work the beat
detector.

Cortex: Sorry but what about Peel 2? Was that considered
an EP? If so the new one would be EP9 :)

There should be an Autechre school where people can go to
learn things right and have 10 hour discussions on
discography LOL. Id go

amon:
if peel1 isnt considered as an ep, i assume it'd be the same
with peel2. if so, the new ep would be ep8. please let it
be ep8. PLEASE! ;)

ps - sign me up for the class.

alright...that settles that. the new ep is ep8 :) I have
no clue why the ps's weren't considered eps...cause they
should. call them...ep rejects.

already did Cortex! Classes start next monday! :)
Discussion will be about Cichlisuite so get studying for
that.
