got these in today from skullcandy ebay for $20.

You haven't heard music until you heard them on headphones
with dedicated subwoofers!

np: Koan sound: sly fox w/ subwoofer headphones! :P

Koan Sound is great.
The mastering makes it very listenable.
Come to the Purple side
Come to the Dank Side

well, through years of knowing of them, I have to say that
skullcandy headphones (except the cheapest of the in-ears)
suck royal ass. I even worked at a store where people kept
returning them because they broke so easily. The sound is
also so-so - I like the cheap in-ears, cause you get quite
good drivers for the money. The sound suits me fine for
everyday mp3-playing.

One tip though; wrap tape around the chord right by the jack
- 70% of the returns we got was when only one speaker would
play, and in all cases it had to do with the lack of quality
on the chord. The inside of the chords rip loose if you
wriggle it around too much - something that tend to happen
when walking around with your player in your pocket.

When they break (and yes, they will) you will like to go out
and buy a pair of Creative Aurvana Live. The bass and stereo
spectra in those are out-of-this-world for the price. They
have blown even my studio-grade Sony MDR-7506 out of the
water, and they can be found around $50.

Question: Does your headphones buzz in the background when
no music is coming through? if so; that's the subwoofers.
Even the ludicrous priced Beats Audio with subs does that.

after seeing sony MDR's in just about every video/photo of
professional studios, i bought those. they're a bit harsh,
but quite precise. for more visceral listening i bought
sennheiser HD280pro's.

i rarely use them any more unless i'm out of the house. in
the house, i have adam a7 + sub8 monitor setup

euch, skullcandy's suck ass - all mid-range and high-end
tin, "dedicated subwoofer" or no

buy some sennheisers for actual quality cans/phones. i've
got the ie7's and they make bass music sound sublime - even
frequency response down to ~19 Hz with those puppies

remember kids, bass music is about quality of bass, not
quantity. i've got an 8" x-sub from av123 that sounds better
than friend's systems with 15" subs because mine is well
made and properly placed in the room.

the same goes for phones - you want something with clear,
present bass, not overwhelming whomp like beats or i assume
these subwoofer-enhanced skullcandys.

for 20 bucks its not to bother really, but you will look
like a tool, same as the beats wearin mofos

i don't think anyone winds up being an expert in monitors
unless they're rich or a professional audio engineer, and i
am neither. my local store didn't have much to try out. so,
i bought the A7's because a friend was gushing over them.
they sound fantastic to me, but no idea how they compare to
tannoy or yamaha or whatever. they're definitely in "ten
year" territory, though -- last set of speakers i'll need
for ten years or so. can't get much better without paying
thousands of dollars.

the sub8 is overkill (i keep it most of the way down!) but i
ordered just the A7's at first, and felt they needed a bit
of help. you're probably fine without them, though.
