i've been using AVG Free for ages, but it's becoming
increasingly shit and obnoxious. just recently, it decided
part of Left 4 Dead 2 was a virus, and now i'm missing out
on the beginning of our weekly zombie slaying session as it
re-installs. can anyone recommend a better antiviral? at
this point i'm willing to pay for it, as long as it's not
shit, but free is always nice.

thx.

i'm using eset for quite some time now and i'm pretty happy
with it. it also doesn't delete cracks and keygens by itself
like avg did.

while i certainly have cracks and keygens, i actually paid
for L4D2 in full. i just installed an SSD and this is pretty
much a clean install.... AVG was definitely full of it on
this one, even more than it is usually.

avg went down the plughole a couple of yrs ago. use avast
now, its not half as processor intensive.

betamax, i agree. i just stuck with AVG out of laziness.
it's gotten increasingly larded down with flashy crap i
don't want (i didn't even install "identity protection").
i've heard good things about avast; i'll give it a shot.
thanks !

I second Microsoft Security Essentials - changed to it when
it came out, and never looked back at those bloated freeware
ones

tried avast. installer is >100mb, not a good start. it has a
talking voice alert just like an upgraded 1980s station
wagon; shut that off. also said "don't show in the tray" but
apparently it interpreted that as "don't show anything." all
was good for a couple weeks, until i tried to use a program
it didn't like. avast said nothing; simply stopped it from
working.

i've installed MSE, which is currently attempting to update,
but stalling

kybosh, and when? not very complicated

yeah, sure, give up porn and live without an antiviral

all well and good until your buddy plugs in a compromised
USB key to copy over his latest track to your PC

what exactly do you want from a free AV? avast IS superior
to AVG and has been for about 3 yrs. ALL guys look at porn,
why do YOU have problems?
