It seems like people here talk a lot about how the "glory days" of IDM/Braindance/whatever have passed, that this forum is dying out etc. Maybe that's the case to an extent.
But what are the best electronic music albums from the last 5 years or so? There must be something worth mentioning.
I apologize if there has already been recent topics like this.

I seem to remember a thread similar to this recently. Oh well.
Anodyne-Corrosion Mount Kimbie-Crooks and Lovers Bonobo-Black Sands 'techre-MOT/Oversteps Vibert-We Hear You Solar Bears-She Was Coloured In tBD-MFRA
These are a few off the top of my head. Theyre all definitely worth a listen. Though not necessarily "IDM" (god I hate that phrase).

the internet, myspace music, the death of record shops, the proliferation of utterly crap media & journalism & fashion, idiot-friendly music making software, lack of financial support for artists & 'industry' via consumer purchasing of music, the compartmentalization of society, the global recession, this has all contributed to and correlates with the decline of electronic dance music, somewhat ironically. loads of good music out there but it's hard work and expensive to promote I guess. Why Undergroubnd Resistance are always going on about killing radio stations and supporting small indies...

Eletcronic music has run out of ideas, like it was bound to do. It's like movies, once you've done Jaws - how can you make a better film about sharks, once you've done Exorcist how can you make a better film about possession? Every electronic music genre has had its moment, and now just festers in it own gloop.
It's even harder for electronic music to keep reinventing itself because it's always been so reliant on technology. The technology was driving ideas, which was always the predictor of an uncertain future.
Only two ways to make good music now, and they have nothing to do with technology. 1) The artist has to have the drive and emotive power to make music that communicates. It really helps if they're having a rotten fucking time of it. 2) Melody, everyone's a sucker for a great tune.
Unfortunately, most artists that were ever any good soon start to believe that the art of melody is beneath them and get all pretentious and self-absorbed to the point of writing sterile, idealistic, emotionless crap (Aphex, Autchre etc.).
Media, record stores, Internet etc. has fuck all to do with it, they're marketing mechanisms. If your burning with passion to make music, you'll make it, and these days there are more channels available to market that music than ever.

you mention aphex and autechre but they're amongst the few to whom one can give bits of attention.
the whole lethargy in which electronic music lives just makes me sick
the sound you're talking about is NOT music. it's -ology and NOT techno
this seems not very clear. so, fuck the whole of you

of course they are. i don't get why people is still staring at them. i don't get their expectation to hear something else. their style is there already. i have listened to, say a good part of aphex music and a smaller part of autechre. and i could go on listening forever without any need of other music in that field. so instead of stressing about the death of electronic music, take an infinitesimal part of an aphex or autechre track and start build from there. not an entire track. an entire track of auteche or aphex twin is way too much for the average ear, which, like a fucking inverted picture, happens to be the most advanced in this saturation scenario. lol @ technology and intelligence faces. i'm not even stoned.

You use the words sterile and emotionless when they are anything but those. Why are you uttering your highly uneducated opinion about music you do not like nor never gave any attention?
Maybe you just don't like that stuff. That makes your opinion rather useless, because only the ones who do can say something meaningful about it. If you put on a CD and all you hear is emotionless sterile crap, then what is the point of even talking about it?

great music from the past year:
Rudi zygadlo - great western laymen
nastynasty - puke paint
eskmo - eskmo
slugabed - ultra heat treated ep
doshy - scatter ep
pretty much all of it in 140 bpm range, but you can hardly call it dubstep. wonderful stuff all of it, i recommend searching it out.

You are wrong Barcode in saying electronic music has run out of ideas...The reason I compose electronic music is that there is an unlimited amount of possibilities...everyday i can come up with sounds and patterns i have never heard before...thats the beauty of it...and i'm sure if you made electronic music you would feel the same way..."We are the music makers...and we are the dreamers of dreams"...just listen to any assortment of AFX mixes of the same track and that should be proof in itself that it's neverending...------->

All you're doing is proving my point. There is so much choice and so many endless possibilities, that nothing original can come from it. When the first sampler came along you could do things that had never been done before, now you can't, because everything's been done before. So where can you turn to for originality? Not in technology - the only place is the songwriter. It's back to square one folks.
I'm not saying there's aren't some good songs around (good albums are rare, great ones extinct), there always will be, but when electronic music exploded you were saying "wow" every fucking two weeks and there was a new genre every month.
Now I never say wow, and I wish I could. 2000-2010 has been pretty horrendous period for music and film, it's the era of the remake. Do a mix? Fuck doing a mix. Do something worthy, that comes from your guts, and if you can't - if you really haven't got the talent to communicate and the technology is leading your ideas, give up.

yeah its weird, loads of very good artists/releases but sometimes hard to get a copy of tiny/ultra limited tape, just like the Skyramps cdr, one of the best record of 2009 & released on some home-made cdr, like 150 copies... a proof the recording industry has kinda collapsed... but the really good music is still out there, its maybe more complicated to get it/find it but its not like it is the end of music. also, i cannot consider electronic music is actually dying while emeralds are puting out records that are as good as popol vuh.
