Do you think most artists have this?

not most, but studies show that there's a higher percentage
of sysesthetic artists than non-artist synesthetes,
particularly musicians.

i'm currently reading 'musicophelia' by oliver sacks which
has a huge chapter on synesthesia. i seriously recommend
this book to anyone interested in both music and psychology.

also i'm so insanely jealous of synesthetes.

I have it, I recently found out what it was, I thought it
was normal.
I was having a normal conversation with a friend in 3d
animation class and he brings up Synesthesia and I asked him
if thought the same way did and said no.

what kind of synesthesia do you have?

i think most artists see pictures as pictures, music as
music etc., many people who are very talented musicians
can't draw well, are not good at picking colors (why are the
layouts of music literature shitty so often? i think often
they don't hire graphic designers but some musical dudes do
it themselves with crap results) and maybe the same the
other way around.

if most artists would "suffer" from synesthesia, we would
have a lot more synaesthetic art.

imo it can be trained to a certain level at least - one
could call it a higher, lucid awareness of your
surroundings... ("if that car was a marshmellow, what song
would it sing?" etc basically), also there's always
shrooms/acid.

I dont have it to an extreme but so for I've noticed when I
think of letters I they are
A. red
B. Blue
C. lighter blue
D.Green
E. yellow
F. orange
So on and so forth

And with music a small amount

Thats odd, bad color choice?
I can draw fairly well, but anything that i draw from my
mind is complete and udder shit, but if I look at something
and draw it its accurate.
my teacher told me I was a Mimicker
and when It comes to color I choose not to because i think
it looks worse with the colors I choose.

when you close your eyes, is it easy for you to imagine
detailed "inner worlds"? Do these have sound/color/smell?

actually it seems that a tendency for synesthetic abilities
is most strongly represented by genetics, not on
environment.

conversely, perfect pitch (a skill which is also often
paired with synesthesia for even stronger effects, ie very
intense color associations with individual keys regardless
of the relative tones, which is what most musical
synesthesia is based on) has been found to be much more
common in children who are raised speaking a tonal language
(chinese etc). so it seems that perfect pitch is a skill
which could be cultivated, while synesthesia does not seem
as likely.

Terrence Hill yes I can
I feel like you can tell what I'm like
Its an odd feeling

So is it more likely that I have Perfect pitch or
Synesthesia
I'm asking because you have research much more than I ever
had hah

ha okay i'm a bit jealous that you have that sound/smell
thing, for me it's just visuals with a slight connection to
sound (and i don't think it's genetics, so not true
synaesthesia... mostly i used to draw a lot and also drugs)

dunno, make the best of it. You seem to be studying creative
stuff and you're basically gifted with enhanced perception,
so as long as you can drive a car n stuff without being
distracted too much it's all good lol.

Well I wouldn't be to jealous If i were you lol
When Im stressed is when I hate it,
My mind thinks of things on its own and it rants stupid
sayings
it will repeat over and over again till something stops it,
and I will think of the most disturbing things and I cant
stop it half the time.
I've tried researching my behavior and so far I have found
out that I have
Bipolar/schizophrenia but not to an extreme case so they
call this mixture
I think Borderline personality disorder.
I think I'm leaning more to the Schizo side

Its a real brain condition, not just like a metaphor. I
think its caused simply from the 'color' processing area of
the brain being adjacent to the 'number' area (or something,
I don't remember. Search for: 'ramachandran synesthesia').

Here is an experimental test that pretty much proves some
people have it (hard for a person without it to distinguish
2's and 5's, but people who see 2's as red can very quickly
see all the 2's):
LAZY_TITLE

Daniel Tammet has really fucked up Synesthesia type stuff
and can use it to somehow picture numbers as shapes and
colors, allowing him to recite pi to more than 22 thousand
decimal places... A calculator could do that pretty easily
(if it allowed more digits) but human brains aren't normally
wired like that.

I may have Synesthesia.

I am very creative- in poetry, can draw well, not so much
from imagination, but from life, I have a strong sense of
rhythm and am okay at drums, am pretty good at photography.

I have had a few dreams in which I have definately heard
music, which I am not aware of ever having heard before
hand. Also, I often wake with a song I ahve heard before in
my head, as if it was the 'theme tune' to the dream.

In addition, I see a lot of things as relating to shapes,
such as pleasant feelings being rounded, and generally
unplesant things being sharp in my mind and stuff.

I guess it doesn't matter whether I have it or not- as my
nan said, it won't change the way I think about things...

But still, whatta you think from the stuff I have said?

I thought it was cool at first, but now I wouldn't be
'jealous' of syesthetes. But is synesthesia related to those
other conditions?

Also, why the fuck is my spellchecker not giving me any
suggestions if 'synesthesia' isn't a word? :/

i see sound somewhat visually, in terms of textures,
light/dark, contours, etc. but it never seemed like
something uncommon or profound enough to think of as
synesthesia. of course smoking or what not enhances that
effect.

well, I don't imagine it would seem weird or profound to a
syesthete... :/

But maybe I am wrong, dunno. *shrugs*

I wanna do more research on it, but there doesn't seem to
that much on the net.

You're just thinking metaphorically or imaginatively. People
who have synesthesia ACTUALLY see printed numbers in colors
or whatever mixup they have.

pretty much none of those point to synesthesia.

like wmw said, it's a very specific condition. the most
common kind of synesthesia is alpha-numeric to color, in
which one sees or associates letters, words, or numbers with
colors. this is commonly also paired with the same kind of
association with days of the week, months, etc.

music to color synesthesia is not as much seeing colors when
music is playing, but again an association. the key of b
major with sound red, where as b minor may be a burgundy.
most commonly this is associated with keys and not single
notes, or neutral intervals like a fifth or octave - you
need that third.

but there are others who have perfect pitch (the ability to
intrinsically know what note is being played without any
reference) paired with synesthesia who will see a single
note as having color. one synesthete remarked as a child "i
like that blue note," referring again to b.

which color is associated with which key is normally
constant for each synesthete, but is not shared with other
synesthetes. there is no evidence to show that the colors a
synesthete sees have any direct corrolation with the
corropsonding key/letter/etc outside his own association.

Oh, this is not relevant to this subject but..
I'll be in my room and ill picture taking apart anything and
everything (Taking things apart in my mind?) and very
detailed to
I was wondering...is it common to do this?
