the state of electronic music

we all know that lazy laptop IDM is really boring

and we know that it's REALLY COOL!!! to like electro these
days. especially if you make out like you were always into
it

but is it any less tired than the "post beatles" guitar.
bass .drums combo that people so easily slag off for being
played out?

Of course it's SUPER COOL to like Drexciya... especially
because and they're black

but how many more pissweak rip offs of kraftwerks Numbers
and Computer World and do we really need?

Do we really have to settle for the same old thing 30 years
after this brilliant groundbreaking music existed.....?

AFX taught us with Analord that electro and acid music can
evolve but it seems that nobody has grasped this fact

It's as if anything with an 808 in it is automatically good

don't you deserve more

"we all know that lazy laptop IDM is really boring"

ye, that's why a&d revolution came about.

"and we know that it's REALLY COOL!!! to like electro these
days. especially if you make out like you were always into
it"

electro will always be great. cool or not cool is just a
irrelevant hipster fashion argument.

"but is it any less tired than the "post beatles" guitar.
bass .drums combo that people so easily slag off for being
played out?"

every ac dc album is the same form, really simple form. and
theyre one of the biggest selling bands of all time. the
reason is, simple forms actually work really well. chasing
novelty forms sounds good on paper or written in words but
the actual music sucks (autechre hehe). ceephax proved to
everyone that the "supposedly tired" acid forms were
unexplored. the rule was that a 303 was boring and nothing
else could be explored on it. truth was otherwise. bare
simple forms actually offer more possibilities than autechre
style.

"Of course it's SUPER COOL to like Drexciya... especially
because and they're black"

hipster fashion argument.

"but how many more pissweak rip offs of kraftwerks Numbers
and Computer World and do we really need? Do we really have
to settle for the same old thing 30 years after this
brilliant groundbreaking music existed.....?"

No, just try one of these artists:

+10 acid crew
Acid Quiff
Aphex Twin
Amen Warrior
Arnold “House” Dicá
Automatic Tasty
Chris Moss Acid
Ceephax
DMX Krew
Dr Dinsync
The Doubtful Guest
Electrokinesia
EOD
Fah
Florian Hecker
Global Goon
Greenbank
Impakt
Jodey Kendrick
Luke Vibert
Monolog X
The Railway Raver
retax gorgon
Space Dimension Controller
syntezatory.prv.pl
Syntheme
The Tusken Raver
The Tuss
Volxsound

"AFX taught us with Analord that electro and acid music can
evolve but it seems that nobody has grasped this fact"

Not true.

"It's as if anything with an 808 in it is automatically
good"

Hipster!!!!!!!!!

"don't you deserve more"

The thing about "IDM" or "A&D" or whatever the kids are
calling it this week, is that the bedroom aesthetic gives a
lot of the listening population the idea that "this is easy,
I can do this too", it's similar with stand-up comedy.

This messageboard has housed some of the bedroom artists
that can make their own music without having to advertise
that it "sounds Drexciya-esque" or that it is "inspired by
Autechre", but also there are the artists that are happy to
change a note in an Aphex song and add a ton of reverb and
call it an "original piece".

And as the 44th generation "IDM"ers create their music for a
genre which has never existed, some may break through and
become Wisp, and become a frankly satirical epitome of the
non-genre.

Beep Boop.

I agree to a point, the music didn't seek me out. But
there's too much imitation in the armchair electronics. But
I only listen to Baroque, so what do I know.

lol, imitation is pretty much the only thing you do when you
try to make some music. rdj ran after his memories like any
other, and volountarily or not he did music evoking some
already done by others as well. i dunno about gear, but pls
stop this originality bullshit you ain't fooling no one in
here :)

I'm not actually in distress about "the state of electronic
music", because there's not much in the way of comparison
through the years (pick any decade and you'll find a
different vogue being chased) and I don't believe there has
ever been originality as such in anything, you build upon
the ideas of those before you most of the time. What I said
was imitation, and I meant absolute imitation; I enjoy
Dynarec, but sometimes it feels as though it's going too far
into the revelry of Drexciya, and essentially making
Drexciya tracks. ly babs xxx

lol no. but i've talked to one NI guy about that 4/4->6/8
rhythm change in Cipater and he drummed it with his fingers
on the table with a smile on his face. There's free pizza
sponsored by Ableton, and some meganerds are trying to wrap
SoundCloud into a vst plugin.

analog sucks.

what the fuck has drexciya being black got anything to do
with electronic music
my you are a cnut
my advice to you clowns is, if you like something praise it,
and talk about it, if you dont, then say nothing......
unless its about muse like i did the other night which is
completely different, because he sings like a spoilt
brat...
the difference between electronic music now and 15 yrs
ago....is there more people doing it and you dont have to go
to record shop or club to find out about something new, that
doesn't mean that you cant find something you like out
there, as drexciya said there is room for everyone
so chill out and use this board to discuss new music
i reckon if you wanna talk shit there's a place for you over
at watmms general banter

current state'

theres plenty of good tracks and albums out there.
music should be less about intellectual thought and more
about the listening experience
