Am I crazy or do you all still support the industry?
I only buy vinyl unless there is no vinyl release.
But honestly: do you still buy music? And what are you
latest purchases?

Mine:
WISP, The Shimmering Hour (preorder)
VENETIAN SNARES, Filth
JAMIE VEXD, In System Travel EP
VARIOUS PRODUCTION, As It Stops Raining (Featuring Georgia's
Horse)
DISTANCE / SKREAM / GOTH-TRAD, Night Vision (Skream Mix) /
Traffic (Goth-Trad Mix)

I rarely buy music. If it's an artist I know and like, then
I will pay for their music. But most of the time the only
way I can listen to what other people have made is buy
"stealing" it.

I buy music when I can afford it because I'm not one of
these lame people that think musicians just toss their work
off in the evenings and should just get a job and work like
the rest of us THE BUMS.

If its good I'll still buy it. I only download unobtainable
stuff. I think the last thin I stole was er about 3 years
ago. I don't like legit mp3's tho. The few times I've paid
for mp3's I've felt conned, paying pretty much the same as
shop price for an inferior product. Yes I know, shut up
already.

I've started to use Bleep and other similar services, but
I'm still a "download to try, purchase to buy" kind of
listener. I pay for every recording I listen to more than
once.

To me, there just isn't any way to reasonably handle the
industry's problems if you're going to be dealing in terms
of purchasing a physical commodity - that aspect of the
industry is heading out the door. CDs and DVDs will only be
the primary delivery method for the next 8-10 years; after
that, we will be dealing with non-physical purchasing, which
will necessitate subscription-based services or some other
ingenious marketing/delivery strategy.

Glad to hear some people still buy their music, i'm not the
only crazy one out there. I dont understand why there are
people who only download music for free. Are you cheap
asses? or dont you believe in this system? Musicians have to
make a living to imo. But I dont understand people who pay
for their downloads (f.e. bleep) too. When i buy something I
want something fysical in my hands.

they could at least add some artwork like covers
or posters to print along with downloads to get to the
physical experience. thought about byung some flacs
of albums i wouldnt buy or are out of stock and a few
such goodies to print yoself wouldnt be much hassle.

i thought artists who release records on well-known labels
get paid even before record sales factor into it. Like when
an author gets paid for his book and not for his sales,
that's how the retail stores and labels make their money
nowadays right?

Itunes doesn't make sense, since i bought a couple tracks
from Quasimoto's Unseen album i just bought every other
individual track off of the album, each track was a dollar,
thats like 30.00 USD, but if you click, "buy album" you can
get them all for just 10$

It wouldn't let me click buy album because i already had a
couple tracks from the album, that is NOT FIAR

Syntheme: Lasers and Shit
Acid Junkies: Acid Life 1
Kraftwerk: Der Mix (German version)
Sonic Youth: Silver Sessions
Ceephax: Drive Time

Only CD purchases, in order to fight poverty I've decided
never to vinylize (let's see how long I can take it).
Downloading has stopped for me, it intoxicated my life.

i only d/l off p2p if i need a single track for a mix, want
to hear before i buy, or if i am just getting some old shit
that i don't feel like rebuying, etc.

anything i intend to keep i buy, although i have shared with
friends, (i'll buy one album, a friends buys another, and we
rip each others.) capatalism hates it, but i would rather
see good artist and pretty good artist both get a sale,
rather than good artist gets 2 sales and pretty good artist
gets 0.

music lovers have to make a living too, and they have to do
that without incredible talents and round the world
tripping. but if a musician give them some minutes of music
they feel in the deepest recesses of the mind, a musician is
very well payed making a music lover's day.

very well said but imo if someone has got talent men must
explore this right? If a musician must make money in a
different way he's got less time to explore it.

that is a valid point, in fact i'm for give some money if
you have some to give.. although i'm not sure that music for
money is always an absolute equation. let's put it this way,
would really you give a fuck of money if you were a
talentful sound maker? would you really give a fuck of what
the people think of your music when you do it for yourself
first? what else is better of someone feeling genuinely
insane for something that you did? money? i don't think so..
it's just hugely reductive :)

and imho, if one starts caring more about money than the
passion.. then he/she should immediately stop bothering with
sounds and start a insurance business.

Don't you think creative people should be encouraged to be
able to make a living from what they do? How can they give
all their time to music if they have a 9 to 5 job? Not
realistic is it?

In most jobs you get paid for the work you do, whereas in
the arts it seems to be acceptable to give everything away
for free.

Still, there's no going back now - the key is for creative
people to find ways of selling their product that goes
beyond MP3 - perhaps putting more attention into live work,
or physical releases that are more attractive to the
consumer than a plastic case with a slip of paper inside.

i buy albums when i have money to spend. i enjoy the very
event of traveling into london my car at night and taking my
time finding soild hard albums with artwork to admire. i
need pleasures like this to look forward to. (very sad to
see virgin megastore closed down)

imo, musicans in this genre def dont make enough from their
sales. their main source of income is either some part time
job non related to music, or other music projects ie. music
scores, touring, remixes...
worse comes to worse they become high art music critics.

id imagine most musicians want recognition before wanting
masses about of money. of course money helps, feed the belly
and have a roof over your head...

STEVE ROACH, Landmass
STEVE REICH, Tehillim The Desert Music
ROBERT LOGAN, Accurate Spit Boy vinyl EP
AUTECHRE, Quaristice (steel limited Edition)

This is because of the vast oversupply of artists. The herd
needs to be culled back to sustainable levels with a
courageous program of sterilization and lobotomy.
