Really nice music packaging

I just bought the new Earth album on vinyls, in the limited
edition box/binder format. It looks and sounds incredible.
180g vinyl, embossed faux leather sleeve, mastered exclusive
for the release... sound familiar? :)

Anyway, I wish all albums would have the same care and
attention as this, but I know first hand the costs involved
in vinyl manufacturing. I bet they lost a lot of money doing
this.

Use this thread to talk about your sexiest music packaging.

the only thing that comes to mind when you say earth album
is LTJ Bukem compilations. Can you link us to the artwork?

I like the In Rainbows cardboard case, and bjork's hits
compilation foldout digipack.

Also raw cardboard (non glossy finish) digipacks are
generally great, and as for juwelcases my favourites are the
ones with rounded edges.

from the top of my head:

*the foldout cover for jackson&his computer band lp
*the isness & otherness double cd with where you pull out
one tray and the other one magically pops out on the other
end
*björk family tree boxset, i'm a sucker for that cardboard
and pink plastic case (also the volta album had some really
nice packaging)
*mr maxted lp on mordant music, color vinyls in a pvc with a
sheet of something resembling plastic cardboard - simple but
effective
*hanalord suitcase with compartments for the hanalord 1 - 11
releases (digital releases stored on 12" usb dildodongles)

I don't personally own this item, but from the pics I've
seen it looks damn hot. Miles Davis - On the Corner box set

(sorry, best pic I could find)

now if you want to talk graphic design... I would say that
Vaughn Oliver's work for 4AD and Peter Saville's designs for
New Order were the biggest influences on my attempts at
design.

Also, just about anything on the Tzadik label is
worth checking out.

all the Lemon Jelly album covers are amazing pieces of work
cover art wise, Lost Horizons being my favourite - a
tri-fold thick cardboard sleeve, almost like a book, with
slots in either end for the CD and booklet. Very nice
artwork too

i hate "fancy" cd cases, but "fancy" vinyl cases are
awesome, as they fit the general esthetic.

my favorite is hte one made out of tom jenkinson's pouch
hair.

Some that have impressed me, on CD, in the past are:

Slayer - Blood Pack
Slayer - Blood pack, with skulls inside too!
Sigur Ros - ()
Prince - Batman Tin (not really original now but I think it
was one of the first tins)
Pet Shop Boys - Bobbly orange plastic one
Spiritualised - Perscription drug packaging
Tool - Layers of human

With the demise of CD sales I really expected record
compnies to do something diffrent and add some value to the
original object. But alas.

The first run of Pink Floyd's Pulse with the red led
blinking was great. Also the Metallica's Live Shit box was
nice too.

Joanna Newsom's Ys packaging is quite nice. Volta, as
mentioned earlier. Oh, and Geogaddi, of course. All vinyls.

yeah got the latest earth LP & it looks really great, most
Southern Lord releases are really beautiful, same with
Touch. I guess its a way of fighting against the digital
format. Quaristice metal version : i'm not crazy about it,
dunno why. I like the analord binder but its not really
casual, takes a bit of time to pick the records without
damages but yeah SIZE MATTERS

if you actually like it or just commenting on the packaging,
but some of her stuff brings me so close to tears everytime
<3

The triple vinyl version is much better artwork wise.
