Hi folks, My name is Josh Ellis. I'm trying to find out what happened to my friend John Andrews, aka jand, who was a moderator here. On several other message boards there are reports that jand died on June 20th after being mugged outside his local pub. You can see one thread here: http://www.yayhooray.com/thread/152853/R.I.P.---jand If this isn't true, I'd very much like to know...but it sounds like it's true. I'm hoping someone might be able to put me in touch with his boyfriend or his family so I can find out what happened and give my condolences. I've known jand since around 1999-2000 on the web design boards (like dreamless), and though we weren't close friends or anything, he was a good and smart guy and I'd just like to find out what the deal is. I know a lot of people online liked him as well, and I don't want him to just vanish, you know? I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings (if they are bad, and this isn't some kind of fucking hoax or weirdness), and forgive me for just barging in here, but I know he posted and/or was a moderator here and I just thought somebody might know something. I know, and I apologize. I wish I had more to go on. Which is why I'm hoping someone here can say "You're a fucking idiot and he's perfectly fine!" At which point I go hunt down the people who made this up and issue the beat down. |

Jand posted something on his blog three days and then a week after he died. He's got skills. Probably on holiday or something. |

I know, I saw that too, and I asked my friend who told me about it. He thought maybe Jand had set that stuff to publish later. It gives me hope, though. Really, I'm not a troll trying to freak people out, I promise you. If anybody can prove this to be false, I'd be very, very happy to find out. |

His last post here, that I could find, was in March. And on another board (humhum, I think) he posted about being beaten and robbed and (possibly) dragged off somewhere, on the 18th or 19th. The next day, according to his post, his boyfriend's house was burned down. And then, according to what I'm being told, he died, presumably of his injuries. No mention of going on a trip, though that would be awesome if it were true and I could feel like a complete asshole. |

Yeah, he says it was on Sunday night, which would be the 15th. Good eye, dude. Nothing in his local paper -- no obit, nothing. So maybe it's bullshit. But does anybody here actually know jand? Have his cell number or anything? |

Update: I looked on a private board that Jand belonged to, and the guy who spoke to the coroner's office is a personal friend of both Jand's and mine that I can vouch for. (Jand and I both know --or knew -- this guy IRL.) It's highly unlikely that he would make this up. Another old acquaintance found out via a message from Facebook, which isn't conclusive of anything, but if my friend says he talked to the coroner, I'd tend to believe him. So I'm guessing, sadly, that it's true. My apologies for bearing the news to Jand's friends here, but I knew he was a long-time member of this board, so I thought I'd come here for info if anybody had any. |

Well can't this mutual friend give some indication as to what happened? The coroner would only be involved if the death was sudden and unexpected. If true it is sad news, Jand seemed like a really nice guy. |

He says they won't tell him anything, other than to confirm that it was John Andrews. Which makes sense, if there's a police investigation. (For my money, there damn well ought to be -- if jand got mugged or gay-bashed and then his boyfriend's house got burned down the next day, I think that warrants an investigation, even if it turns out there's no connection.) |

Hi my name is Johnny, my John ( jand ) may have mentioned me to you guys , I'm sorry I've been so long to get in touch ,you heard about fire , so access limited for me . Johnny boy was my cyber guide ,I'm hopeless with all this stuff. I'm sorry to have to tell you that something awfull happened to John on 15th June I was unable to collect him.As had been playing in pub in village and drunk a barrel of guinness. The next day, 5a.m. i woke to recieve worrying texts . Tues the fire 17th 20th June John took his life. His funeral is at chelmsford crematorium,Essex, U.K.@ 10.30 in the North chapel. Iam uncertain about any function afterwards as the family are not in communication with me. His Friends and people that loved him are welcome to join me . We shall be sinking plenty of Jack Daniels, Guinness and anything else we can get our hands on to send him off. It is such a shame that the world will never know what he could have been . My Love and thoughts go out to all who knew him. He was one of my favorites on here, I think that he sent me my Gmail invite back in the day. He was a true Gentleman who seemed to live by the rule, 'If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all'. He will be missed. |
