Apparently he's really good at 303 programming!

Hope the recording gets released in one way or another.

I'm on a PC, and they're working for me. Perhaps it's your
browser? Try another browser and if you can't get it working
I'll post the pics in the thread.

This does sound really interesting, I'd love to hear the
audio.

Yeah curious too, I think 808/909 can only do 4/4 (16 steps
per pattern) or so I hope, would like to hear Aaron program
something more dance orientated.

We'll be together again
I've been waiting for a long time
We're gonna be were gonna be
Together again
I've been connected
To the right line
We'll be together
And nobody never
Gonna disconnect us
Or ever separate us
Or say to us youve got to

STOP!
Stand there where you are
Before you go too far
Before you make a fool out of love
STOP!
Dont jump before you look
Get hung upon a hook
Before you make a fool out of love

Why do you think those drum machines aren't capable doing
different time signatures?

offline Sano on 2008-06-14 16:29 [#02215909]
Points: 2502 Status: Lurker | Followup to JivverDicker: #02215908

I didn't mean four on the floor tho, from what I gather VS
seems to be a fan of 7/4 which is 28 steps, I haven't study
music but that seems to connect well from what I read about
Roland's drum machines (never used one).

offline JivverDicker from my house on 2008-06-14 16:32 [#02215911]
Points: 12102 Status: Regular | Followup to Sano: #02215909

They both can do a 7/4 thing changing the end of the
sequence or doing a triplet sequence.

offline Sano on 2008-06-14 16:38 [#02215913]
Points: 2502 Status: Lurker | Followup to JivverDicker: #02215911

Wasn't aware of that, nice to know, still curious to hear VS
drum programming on an 808, I think on Last Step it was
mostly a 606 (been a long time since I've heard it).

offline Fah from Netherlands, The on 2008-06-14 17:50 [#02215942]
Points: 6428 Status: Regular | Followup to Sano: #02215913

certainly all tr808 on Last Step. The 808 and 909 can
produce sequences ranging from 1 to 16 steps and tripplets
etc, so if aaron got to program a 7/4 beat on an 808, he can
combine two seperate sequences as one, first one being 16
steps, second one being 12 steps. The tr606 can only connect
up to 4 sequences of any variety, while the 707 808 and 909
can do any amount of sequence connections.. (yaps on
uncontrollably about roland drummachines)

Points: 2502 Status: Lurker | Followup to Fah: #02215942

Great info! So that explains the drumming being so similar
on Last Step to his other works, I confess that I only
started reading on time signatures because on every single
VS thread people always bring the 7/4 time signature thingy.

offline Fah from Netherlands, The on 2008-06-15 09:59 [#02216062]
Points: 6428 Status: Regular | Followup to Sano: #02216023

It's all samples from the 808 though on Last Step, since
drumrolls like that can't be done with any time signature or
even when turning the tempo knob. I think most of the gear
on the pictures are cyrus rex's, since it's his place, and i
can hear the gear in his tracks. I was planning on making a
tutorial video on the tr606 next week, you might be
interested.

Cevin Key has been known to do jam sessions like this and
then cut it up and use it on an album later. The first
several Download albums used a lot of jam session source.

Well let's see, the thing itself is a workstation, which
makes it possible to program 8 channels with different
presets/selfmade patches coming from the synth itself. Now i
don't use it for that, since i route most of the channels to
my other synthesizers, but there's just these minor things
that makes me like this workstation more than the MMT8,
while basically it works exactly the same. First pre is a
stepsequencer next to MIDI recording from it's keys. It's
nicer for more complex compositions, which took me some time
to do by hand on the MMT8 and it would still not sound like
i would want it to. Second is what i want to call
'on-the-fly routing'... On the MMT8, it'd record what's
coming in through MIDI, but only after it's recorded you'd
hear what the composition sounds like on that particular
synthesizer. Which gets very annoying. Though on the ESQ1,
while recording, it simply plays what it's routed to, so you
can hear what you're doing. Maybe it's a feature that's
hidden in the MMT8 or only available on a later version, but
i found this to be what made me use a software sequencer
more than the MMT8. A minor bitch is that the thing is huge
and heavy. Almost as heavy as the Yamaha DX7, which is like
carrying around a rock like i'm Obelix or something.
