through absolutely no choice of my own i've ended up seeing ash 4 times in my life and even met their sniveling lettuce of a frontman tim wheeler. experiences like this are what turns a spirited youth into an enfeebled wizened old man.

i met him too. my friend's a photographer so he got us these passes at one of their gigs. this girl and i were sitting in Ash's little back room drinking their vodka while they were playing the gig, only for them to catch us in the act after they'd finished playing. he was surprisingly cool about it.

Bad sound, I have heard 15 year olds in youth clubs doing Oasis covers that have sounded better. They can't have soundchecked, I saw Sigur Ros at the same venue and their sound was great.

i used to go to all sorts of free shows that were super pathetic like pat benetar and steve miller band, but the one that takes the cake as the absolute worst was the "beach boys" with creedence clearwater REVISITED opening. i couldn't even enjoy it as something kitschy. the only redeeming factor was that it cost me nothing.

i went to a bbq with my dad when i was a teenager. all went well until some old lady pulled out an acoustic guitar and everyone started singing hymns. we made our excuses during the first hymn and fucked off straight out of there. it was a bit of a shame in one way because the bbq was fucking ace.
does this count?

i actually have no idea what this has to do with you telling me not to expect techno.

it just made me not like them..i knew the concert would be slow and tedious, like their albums, which would have been okay maybe if it were a seated venue but it wasn't. so i'm standing there falling asleep and my knees are locking and i'm generally having a hard time keeping my eyelids up. and i have to pee, really badly, but i can't get through the thick crowd of very hip people. and then during their big smash hit song (i do not remember the name, i dont even have their mp3s handy lol, the one with the drip drop sound effect on their first album) somebody made a mistake with the dat tape for the drippy sound and it came out at the wrong time again and again (which was actually really the most fun and enjoyable part of the concert because it spiced things up a bit!) and the singer freaked out and stopped the song and got really mad it looked like. so it was kind of embarrassing for him, and then the way he handled it sort of made me just not really like him that much.
