first thing you need to do is to get some nice little
crocodile clips. Also if you get the circuit board and press
it into paper you can keep track of what works.

1. go to goodwill or thrift store with about $10 or GBP
equivalent
2. find some casio keytone type keyboards
or speak & spell or toy
3. get some wires & alligator clamps from radioshack or
elsewhere and make sure you have at least a screwdriver,
possibly a soldering iron if things break
4. do it

if you're going to circuit bend, take all your shit as far
away from anyone else as possible, so no one can hear you.
then, dont bother.

if you can still find a furby somewhere they're well easy to
make a load of stupid bendy noise with

as the results are often
much better when circuit bent instruments are used 'here and

there' within a much larger body of musical ideas. Case in
point: AFX.

I think that's the only way to use it in terms of letting
other people hear what you're doing, which I wouldn't really
do if it wasn't requested of me and I think I've heard both
RDJ and AE say that it was other people that suggested they
actually release stuff. it's not interesting otherwise by
itself, that's true, there's not enough in there to
stand-alone.

Yeah, that's a good "philosophy" of sorts... If you don't
plan on sharing the music with anyone, then by all means
"limit" (I use the term loosely) yourself to solely bent
instruments. You've just got to do more, for the most part,
if you want others to pay attention.

Are you making music that includes circuit-bent instruments?
I'd like to hear it if you're planning on releasing it at
some point. Keep me posted. :]

lol I decided upon waking up this morning I'd circuit bend
my old, long forgotten Yamaha DJX box thing. Cruddy piece of
shit barely goes for £30 on eBay. I found a chip inside
this metal housing that really really screws EVERYTHING up.
I added two switches:
- one seems to freeze the clock, then switching it off
makes the clock run very fast to catch up with everything.
while it's on, you can get some really nice glitchy ambient
pads out of it.
- the other just generally screws everything up and crashes
it totally. I might add a pot to it and see if I can get it
to be less sensitive.
