Certain aspects in death have always attracted me. What three elements do you want in death?
I find (in no specified order):
1. Silence 2. Release 3. Peace
In almost every death I witness, the stuff I enjoy to see die, and give my praises to, I find that these are the three key-elements, that have always made me cry "hallelujah"!
Freak accidents, cop killings, war casualities, some plane crashes, serious illnesses, hit and runs, some famine ... almost everything I enjoy has these three elements.
What's your three (at least one) favorites concerning death, and a short description as to why, to provide some substance. You're free to choose whatever you want. Go!

technically those 3 things you mentioned won't exist to you after you're dead.
i dunno how it feels the moments before you die (if you feel some kind of release, peace or silence) but none of those things obviously exist after death.
but, the concept of death as an opposition to life, i would say my main attraction is to not live. simply dont feel or experience anything.

Death in everyday life.
My clothes are covered in baby gurp. My mind in other things.
Sitting at the same café table, same booth where we cried when she told me she was pregnant.
Two bus drivers wave to each other. Power lines along the roadside.
The café is closed. Sticks floating in a pile down the river. People on vacation.
Urine and perfume, celebrity, graffiti bench, bus stop. Birch trees standing in swamp water. Two men fishing on the side of a small lake. A passing Volvo.
Life in Pennsylvania. Camping trailers and kitty litter: the total unconditional fulfillment of all of our desires forever.
Bus seat covers. Even sadness needs a lover. House on a cliff.
Tell me what you want. I’ll tell you another thing.
Wind traveling.
Now that the train broke down, I appreciate the bus. As the city approaches, an ambulance, the other direction.
Krishnamurti said that “clarity of perception is its own action.”
Orange handled scissors in a jar of blue pens.
The big red dictionary sitting on the flimsy white plastic laundry basket lid, ready to fall through.
Have no studio. Uncertain about blue ink. Pleased to see the café table is as unsteady as the one at home.
Cinnamon roll falling apart.
Young men in their twenties sit behind, discussing the upcoming version of Nintendo.
I have no opinion about either.
Cucumber salad. Green-handed frogs. The memory of summer leaves.
It always seems to come back to a question of structure.
Chuck D. John Cage. Both have names involving the letter “C.” But beyond that, I don’t see the connection.
I used to be frustrated by the way my girlfriend always leaves her shoes in the middle of the floor.
But I have realized that when I accept the shoes, I am no longer irritated.
Or rather, I am still irritated, but I am able to watch my irritation and therefore not suffer from it.
Now when tripping over the shoes in the middle of the night to pick up the baby, instead of being irritated, I find the shoes awakenin

Can’t see the face of the girl with long, blonde hair well enough to know if I am attracted.

Cracker Jack! The science museum went black! School children run out the front door, the ghosts run out the back!

I strongly believe in reincarnation, coming back as something higher or lower in the status of all things. For instance, when my grandfather passed away, every time I see a newly sprouted tree or sapling, I like to think to myself, "Hey, there he is."
And it really feels good to be able to see him again, regardless of form. :]

My thought is as follows, based on the stories of two friends who have had near death experiences. They both informed me that time seemed to slow down.
My thought:
As death becomes ever closer, time slows. Time or the perception of it becomes so slow the perceieved point of death is never reached.

YOU don't die at all. Your bodies atoms are merely re-assembled by nature. You will still be very much present in various ways, except you won't know that you are present - although it's dubious that you know you are present now. You assume you are present by using the knowledge implanted in you by your culture and value system. If you were not taught language you would not know you were alive, you would behave like a wild animal, purely instinctually. Therefore you only know you are alive due to your conditioning, which can be manipulated in a million ways. You really are just a puppet and a flesh machine. Your brain is a merely computer - nothing creative can come from it, what has been put in there responds to certain stimuli. It could so easily be very different, and maybe better.

You're correct about your body's atoms eventually being assimilated by nature, but that usually takes place long after death (unless you were vaporized). You, and everything that makes you YOU, ceases to exist when the brain dies. You are not your atoms, you are the state of your consciousness.
If nothing creative can come from the human mind, then where did language come from? A culture cannot be created from nothing, it requires intelligent, self-aware, creative organisms in order to exist. The same is true of value systems. I'm sorry, but I find it fairly misguided to assume that one can create a language and a culture before one knows that oneself is alive.
A human brain is, in essence, a computer, but it is not subject to the exact same laws that govern w M w's IBM thinkpad. It knows it exists without any programming or conditioning, unless, of course, you consider the brain forming in the womb to be "conditioning."

Human language is not creative, it is the result of higher intelligence. When a pig grunts is that creative - if so then nature is creative, not the pig. Human beings are more sophisticated, natural evolution has given us a more complex brain from which to evolve a more complex language. A pig also has its cultural behaviours, so does a flock of birds - except they are so basic you don't choose to compare to human culture.
I would strongly question whether you would know you exist without your cultural programming. This is a completely false statement. A monkey does not know it exists, it never asks the question - it acts instinctively on everything. So would you without the knowledge implanted in you, knowledge by the way that you have no surefire way of knowing whether is is right or wrong.

Except those beliefs appear to be completely false and are only likely to create more turmoil. Surely it's more insensitive to rob people of their money and possessions and mislead them through the church than allow them to grieve naturally and without the conflicting emotions that are likely to divide a person for life, endlessly perpetuating their loss and never bringing closure.
If you want to delude yourself regarding afterlife, do it, but don't inflict your stupidity on others, or even worse cast your selfish mental weaknesses under the umbrella of "sensitivity".

You're confusing animistic grunting with the systematic communication of ideas. Sure, at its heart, language does develop from very basic sounds, but if we are truly no different than pigs, then why have pigs not created science, art, or mathematics? Your theory seems to suggest that the first societies were able to create a complex form of communication before they could think for themselves. Language and culture arise as natural extensions of self-aware organisms, language and culture do not create the self-awareness.
I doubt there's any chance of convincing you to see this issue my way, and that's fine. I respect your conviction to your ideas. However, I feel that the very reason you are able to say that humans are no different from pigs is because you can think for yourself, because you are inherently different than a pig.

I'm not disagreeing that I'm different from a pig, of course I am but not to as wide a degree as imagined. The question is, what useful difference is there between me and a pig? As far as nature is concerned, none. As far as nature in concerned you are only required to behave and function as a pig, or any other animal - procreate then die, anything superimposed on that is meaningless.
I do believe that language and culture creates self awareness. It's obvious - communicate first, self awareness second. If you are a baby and everyone around you is unable to communicate to you at all, teach you how to speak, how to think, then how the hell would you know who or what you are? If everyone said you are a girl when you are a boy and blue is pink, that's what you'd think for as long as that was not challenged. If as a baby everyone started aimlessly grunting for the rest of their lives, that's exactly what you'd do for the rest of your life.
Haven't you read about ferral children? If they were self aware why would they not choose to interact with their own human species - the fact is, they're incapable and it still takes 5-6 years once they're taken out of their environment and reprogrammed.
