cheat

well, it changes my conception of the tune,
everything it means to me,
adding a new unavoidable sense...
or something like that
but well explained...
foreign and stoned

"well, it changes my conception of the tune,
everything it means to me,"

you must not have had a strong conception of the tune, if a
short tv ad can have such a dramatic effect on you.

its one thing if an artist writes a song specifically to get
it played on commercials.

if they write a song for their own sake, and someone happens
to want to pay them to put it in a commercial... I say
that's fair game. Musicians need to get money where ever
they can... and if they can do it without compromising the
actual composition process, I see no wrong in making money
off of it.

Maybe a musician should see things from someone else's
viewpoint, rather than their own selfish viewpoint. I guess
that's the difference between a musician who is happy to
sell their music to advertisers and those who won't allow
it.

Yeah, those bastards don't want to be starving artists...
screw them!

Maybe when ALL the fans buy their CDs, instead of share them
illegally, then they can start listening to those fans
viewpoints.

But even there, there will always be the fans who don't
mind, so who should be listened to?

In the end of the day though, its the musicians music, and
they can do with it what they want. Its not hurting the
actual composition process.

(But also keep in mind, a lot of labels/publishing
companies) hold the rights on when to let a song be used or
not. Many many many times, it's not even the musicians call.
Thats pretty standard actually... only on the very
independent labels, when an artist has the leverage to keep
licensing rights, does this happen. My guess is that Warp
most likely holds these rights.)

does anyone remember that Swell Maps song "Blam" in the
toyota ads 5 or so years ago? maybe it was just in america.
it was random and unexpected but i thought it was kind of
funny and disgusting.

"...funny and disgusting"

You just described more than half of the xltronic
population, minus the funny part.

it's not like IDM superstars are actually naming their
car-ad-friendly tracks after car brands or anything.

...SRSLY...
