I was the victim of an armed attempted mugging! About a minute from my flat, three youths accosted me and asked me for change for the phone. I noticed that one of them was moving around behind me and that made me alert. The next thing I knew, the boy in front of me had a knife against my throat and was asking me for all my money - right then I didn't even think; I only acted. I pushed him back and the boy behind me tried to get me in a hold - I easily freed myself from his feeble grip and jogged 20 yards up the road. I looked back, and they weren't following, so I continued walking on. THe police were round today, and I made a statement, and they told me that there was another mugging by these youths, successful unfortunately :| I feel sorry for their victim. I'm just glad that I managed to look after myself and they didn't get anything from me.

shit man, that sounds like Southend alot. At least you didnt get hurt! I hate people like that, but down here you get started on for no reason. Like in a train station this guy came up to a load of my mates and myself and asked us for ciggarettes and we said no. He asked my mate andy and he said no then he headbutted him and punched me. So we got the police on him

Actually, I wasn't shook-up at all! It just was quite surreal... I'd seen them shouting to a girl up ahead of me beforehand, and I ran up and talked to her about it afterwards, so although adrenalised I wasn't shaken at all! I just went home and started a new old skool techno track and had a cup of coffee :D hehe - I was just quite chuffed that I handled myself good and reacted without thinking a la Bruce Lee :D

glad to hear it worked out fine for you.

marlowe,
I'm sad for what happened to you today, that makes me feel pretty down. That said you're either one brave son of a bitch or one stupid one. That was a very risky thing to do in my view. I would have played it weak and given them the money myself. I'd prefer to loose my dignity than my life. Still my respect goes out to you and I hope sincerely that you don't get into any more life threatening scrapes. :-)

Cheers Promo - the truth is there wasn't really any bravery - it was just all of a sudden there was a knife to my throat and I entered some transcendental state (or something!) and just acted without thought at all - I never even began thinking again until I was 20 yards up the road. I'm just glad that my martial arts (the mental aspect) kicked in before my brain had a chance to start thinking about it! :D

Well sure I was exciting about the war (coming to end) it meant the end of the torment of the Iraqi people. I am basically pro war if it means getting rid of dictators and mass murderers worldwide, sure. Anyway best not to get onto this issue its been done to death.

my .02
thinking you're going to die can be a really surreal/serene moment.
one night i got into a fight with 4 rich white drunk kids, ended up getting hit on the head with a beer bottle (in someones front yard) and bleeding rather profusely... i still fought untill they drove away in the leader's daddy's minivan
it's really one of those things that makes you go "yeah, lets see what more i can take"
they couldn't take me down either

Nice going on the escape Marlowe, however, I don't advice using the same course of action if it happens again...unless of course you want to play the part of the headless horseman in the sequel to Sleepy Hollow...

Yes, that reaction can kick in... a friend leapt out at me in a dark corridor. I managed to cut his face with my hand yet could of sworn I didn't even throw a punch. You think he would of learned after I kicked him in the face (again as a "reflex action") after we'd been DJing and he lept at me as I cam out of the toilets.
Thing is, if you think you're being attacked you don't think,"I know, I'll wait 5 seconds and see if I really am being attacked..."

glad your ok mr paul sir, I am staying at a mates house in Kirkdale at the moment...people see whether they can get away with the old "mugging" trick quite often. :D
In the past five years in Bootle I have been marched along the Leeds to Liverpool canal with an air pistol held to my temple, told to hand over my money at knife point, jumped on at a bus station and a gang of 16 year olds tried to set fire to me one night as I walked home from work. You just learn to live with these little quirks of the world :)

good to hear you're ok marlowe
well and now that i'm here i thought i might give my view on this..
i would've done the same a marlowe, i'd never give my money, but not because i have my pride or wanna be a tough guy or hero or some shit like that
(i'm no hero by far, by far .. on the contrary: i'm often a sissy with many things..)
.. but i wouldn't give money 'cause i'd refuse to acknowledge that this is the society we're living in,
you know, it would feel like giving in to it, i don't know how to explain really.. like accepting that this has become normal and part of our society
i refuse to do that, although i know that i may get my ass hurt one day, 'cause of that attitude
i must add that i fortunately never have experienced such a thing in real life, but i'm quite sure that i would hold on to this view
maybe it's stupid

wow Lee, that's nasty shit - I didn't realise so many people on the board had had similar, or worse, experiences :| I know what Morton means, because afterwards I was thinking "Fuck having 3 bams taking my last £2!!" :D As to the reaction thing, I was mulling it over last night, and getting quite scared over it - I simply stepped out of myself - I guess I'm lucky that none of the other two stabbed me in the split-second as I pushed the first one backwards. I'm just relieved that I didn't have time to think, because I would have been in more serious trouble then I reckon. God Bless Instinct! :D

You're lucky they didn't have a gun. People from my college are always getting mugged and they always tell us to give them what they want. I've never gotten mugged, but some crazy guy tried to steal my camera from me because he thought I took a picture of him... and he also thought he was Jesus.
My friends car got broken into last night for the third time. Most people around here leave their cars unlocked so they don't have to pay for the broken glass.
This other friend of mines car got shot. I used to be scared of the crime, but most people won't kill you.
