elderly people wear.

something for everyone/application

It makes it sound like you can't actually choose your next
track. I think that could be a little annoying.

anyone figured out how you select your own track, surely its
not shuffle only

offline uzim on 2005-01-11 14:33 [#01453530]

no, apparently it's not only shuffle, but it would be kinda
hard to select the mp3 you want with no screen... : )

still not sure how you change albums

offline eXXailon from purgatory on 2005-01-11 14:46 [#01453541]

it doesn't have a display, which is really shitty.

also it looks like an ordinary USB-MP3 stick. 240 tracks on
1 GB? pff....on 32 Kbit maybe....

$99 for a 512 MB MP3 player w/o display is a tad overpriced.

offline sneakattack on 2005-01-11 15:16 [#01453586]
Points: 6049 Status: Lurker

No screen! No recording, no wide selection of formats.
Granted what I bought was $50 more, but shit, look at the
iRiver flash players; slightly larger but same price and
wwaaaaay better features (though those can't be accessed as
USB drives).

I'll bitch a lot about the iAudio U2 as soon as it comes in
the mail (ETA 1/17)

I think it looks like a pile of crap myself. The only
people who could possibly want this are joggers. I happen
to jog and would still rather have the iPod mini as it at
least looks a bit more substantial. I think this new Mini
Mini iPod is pointless and starting to saturate the iPod
range with unnecessary models. First we have an overpriced
photo holder that has no video, the main redeeming feature
being it looks nice and now this, which doesn't. I own a
40gb iPod btw.

Man, can you imagine navigating even 512 megs without a
screen? Do you memorize your track list every time you
upload, or just have to seek a shitload? And it's definitely
not the smallest model.

offline sneakattack on 2005-01-11 15:35 [#01453630]

of course it will stil sell 12381293 copies, just like the
rest of the piece of shit ipod line.

what a pain. by the way did you notice that all the
pictures on the website where the unit is shown alone are
NOT photos, but computer renderings? what the fuck is up
with that?

(note that this image is to scale; I properly resized the

i prefer the minimalist style of the ipod... though i'd like
it to have a screen, still, if you play random tracks its
ideal

offline sneakattack on 2005-01-11 16:12 [#01453681]

Well, what does minimalism mean?

The original ipod had apretty good formula, a simple set of
buttons controlling all player functionality, and the design
matched this aesthetic.

Here's the problem: this ipod shit is low on FEATURES as
well.

Besides aren't you tired of this lame look? And I don't
think it's minimalism. Minimalism would be intelligent use
of maybe one additional color, but this gay one color crap
looks shit to me.

oh and since it's obvious the ipod line pisses me off, let
me explain way. Simply from a technical standpoint they are
way behind, and from an aesthetic standpoint, some people
(like you) genuinely appreciate them but for the most part
it's just brainwashing. And ipod isn't innovating on the
line at all, they are just raking in shitloads of cash
(don't tell me iPod photo was the work of geniuses).

have you seen the price of the iaudio? its £10 more
expensive for the 256MB version when you can get the new
ipod with 1GB for £99.

the iaudio 1GB is double the price of the ipod, the new ipod
is perfect the those who its targeted at imo.

as for the ipod photo, i can't stand it... its just
completely pointless and overpriced, for a couple of hundred
more i could buy an ibook, the Mac mini is even cheaper than
the ipod photo!

damn it's pricey in england!

I know the iaudio is more expensive, I just bought one =)
not at your prices thankfully.

I shouldn't be using the iaudio as a benchmark, because it's
SERIOUSLY overpriced (I am getting it because it is mostly
covered as an xmas gift), but if you look at the iriver
line, for instance, they're not too pretty but
price/performance is way better, and the iaudio u2 is about
4 months old!

from the site

# Music capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128Kbps
AAC encoding.
# Do not eat iPod shuffle.
# Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge
cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life
and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. See
www.apple.com/batteries for more information.

????? @ that second one....

It's a joke on Apples spec page for the iPod Shuffle.

I like the idea of just having an iPod that holds some tunes
and I can listen to playlists, shuffle. Plus the new iTunes
has a cool feature - each time you plug the iPod in it will
put different songs on it. Sort of a cool feature.

I have a 20gb 3rd gen so I don't need one. But it seems like
a pretty good deal. I wouldn't mind one for when I go
mountain biking.

the 20GB ipod is hard drive based, meaning it doesn't take
kindly to bumps, it will skip and can even be damaged by
extreme movement like this.

Flash based players don't have this problem.

if you do use it whilst riding your bike make sure you have
a hard case. they're not that strong when you fall off and
land on them.. :(

not just bike riding, "mountain biking", this usually means
off road riding, not good for a hard drive... unless they
mean just riding around to the shops on a mountain bike in
which case of course it should be fine :)

my ipod 40GB has skipped whilst jogging, a little annoying,
also its a little large for jogging... looking forward to
getting the new one.

not that i don't like my 40GB ipod, each ipod is good for
different things, the ipod shuffle just meets my current
needs better,
