a friend of mine, who sometimes visits this board under the
name of Bremzen, makes very good electronic music, under the
name of murw (also see his mp3.com.au site)

and we also make music together - the very few live things I
have done, have all been with him.

anyway, yesterday we presented an installation in the
Central Museum here in Utrecht - it consisted of 10 minutes
of electronic music made by us and a video made by me.

if you will, please take a listen to our music, which we
have called:

plongez, plongez

it's just over 10 minutes and therefore almost 10 Mb - quite
a lot, but if you're not on dial-up, it would be
appreciated. :)

the theme of the exhibition was "fish", so we took the first
2 minutes of audio of the semi-nature film "Atlantis" by
Jean-Luc Besson. that audio consists of a silly voice-over
done in a disgusting manner.

at the last minute we decided we wanted a video, so I stayed
up most of the night before the exhibition and worked almost
10 hours straight to make my first video in Adobe Premier..

if you like, you can also see the video:
click or right-click

that one's 20 Mb.. the sound quality is shit, but it gives
some idea of what we presented.

..

any comments on the above is welcome, ofcourse!

there was a whole music happening thing, with 4 ensembles
playing music, IN FACT, murw/bremzen composed special pieces
for each ensemble that also were played together.

we're all over it, yeh yeh yeh!

well, i watched the video and that is really cool. kind of
reminds me of Stan Brakhage in some ways. the only part i
didn't really like was the white negative fish scene - i got
kind of sick of that. but otherwise, it was really cool. i
dig the soundtrack too - good work!

thanks!

yeah, it does get incredibly repetative at that point. I
wanted to do more there, but my graphics card is CRAP, so
just rendering took 15 minutes at a time.

I literally had to throw my laptop into my bag and go over
to the museum and install it there!

I will.

how do I end up in the Centraal Museum? well, exactly
through bremzen. :)

he works for the Rosa Ensemble, as a kind of assistant
director to the ensemble as well as a composer.

we've always worked together on things, mostly me as a
textwriter, him as the composer. same now goes for Rosa - as
I think I told before we're now working on an opera to be
played by Rosa in a few years. we're creating the storyline
together, he'll compose the music, I'll write the text.

the Rosa Ensemble gets asked to perform in the Centraal
Museum quite frequently and there's always room to do some
electronic stuff, because you just put it on a cd and set it
on 'repeat' etc.

and we like working together. so there you go - it is true,
it's about who you know, I guess. :)

I took all of them down a few days ago. it feels weird
having all this work up that I have little connection to
anymore - it's not dead to me or something, just more of a
distance.

and I feel like I'm changing direction in music, using more
clean samples, so it feels good to have a clear start.

if you like, I can send you a cd-r, just mail me your
adress. I'm sending out some stuff to recylclere this week
anyway. and pomme. because I promised that a long time ago.

d/l your music so ill mail you the adress.
yeah, that rosa stuff, i vaguely remember, it's quite
incredible though, pretty cool
what will the opera be about?

the opera will be about a silly dumb prince, Prins Frentzen;
his quarelling parents, Koning Spek and Koningin Beton; two
evil bureaucrats (is that spelled right????) Frinedly and
Basoluut; Frentzen's future girlfriend, Prinses Labiel and a
robot called Riem.

btw, qrter and i will be playing in a group called Donskoy
on the 8th of may in Utrecht (theater Kikker). we'll also
play two days earlier in the "SJU-huis", with a smaller
version of Donskoy (which is then called Metercast). 8th of
may will be better, because we haven't rehearsed yet.
ehm...hurray!

in short the story will be something like this:

the king and queen get into a fight, decide they want to
have a divorce or something. the king uses his bureaucrats,
which is kind of like a huge secret service, two of them
indeed being Frinedly and Basoluut, who decide it is best to
drive the king and queen further away from eachother.
the people of the kingdom start chosing sides for the king
or the queen and a kind of civil war starts. Frinedly and
Basoluut then erect a wall right through the country.

in the midst of this all is the dumb prince Frentzen who
really wants everything to be a simple as possible. the
situation as it is, is too complicated so something has to
be done about it.

the whole thing will be kind of weird and pretty grotesque,
is the idea.

all the above can change at the drop of a hat, ofcourse.. :D
