this business model is well similar to shareware, which is
fine if you are a small company because exposure is easy if
you are offering something unique. all a user has to do is
search software listings for tags and features.
its different when you apply it to the music industry tho,
cos only hugely known bands can generate enough interest to
make it profitable. you need a huge amount of downloads for
it to work. so while it appears to be a stab at being more
democratic, its actually very monopolist.
if the whole industry adopted this model then there would be
no chance of new or smaller artists making any money at
all.

nah. that just sounds like a boo-hoo'ing record industry
trying to scare other artists from doing this.

self promotion is easier now than ever. just have to move
away from the label oriented paradigm. this model can be
implemented by small labels and web labels as well. It's
relatively inexpensive which levels the playing field.

dunno, i hate how hi hats and cymbals sound on mp3's at
160kbps or less. all like crunchy or something. all like
hitting a pile of broken glass instead of a hi-hat. not
that this release will sound like that.

Thom's only In Rainbows interview

Interview:So thom, what do you think of your new album?

Thom:it's shit

Interview:eurg.. really?

Thom:yeah, it's shit. I always think that about anything we
put out. I mean, come on, we spent years fiddling about
with stuff and working out we didn't like any of it. What
makes this any different?

Interview:well, you decided to put it out

Thom:I know. well, we did it to stop me going mad. the
ever revolving doors need to wind down eventually. we're
like bullets in a gun, we need to be fired so the gun can be
reloaded. i'm like America, the rest of the band can fuck
off.

Interview:ok. tell us a bit about the record then?

Thom: there's nothing to tell. my fans have decided to
paste all of our songs on youtube.

Interview: fair enough, but isn't that a good thing?

Thom: no, it's shit

Interview: it's shit again?

Thom:yes, it is. I thought that playing an entire album of
new material would not end up on the Internets like that. I
thought my fans were idiots. I can barely write words down
properly on pieces of paper let alone predict how good
people are with the Internets.

Interview:well, what do you want to talk about?

Thom:I'll talk about Jonny. I find him alluring, don't
you?

Interview:you are married with kids.

Thom:I know, I just fantasise about busting a load on his
buttock

Interview: we're wrapping up.

Well I was going to try to be funny and say how whenever I
listen to Radiohead all that comes to mind are classic
Sesame Street animations. Well, searching for some on
youtube I discovered ¡Forward, Russia! and have to say I am
quite pleased with this band as well.

I was just curious, nevermind. It would take too long to
put there.

The first song is great, second so-so, listening to the
third now. The production's much more fleshed out than what
I was expecting (sub-par idm dooding like Amnesiac Eraser).
Dowload was surpisingly fast also.

I seriously think a 256+ kbps release would have made this
sound like an entirely different album. Take "Videotape"
for example.

Its still good, but not the smartest move imho.

Around 6am this morning, while listening to httt i realised
i shouldve been in bed hours ago. I turned the tunes off,
flicked on the TV (as the news always cures my insomnia) and
what should i see? thom yorke! Well it got my interest up so
i waited for the story to come on half an hour later. Im so
happy, i didnt even know it was finished. Yeah, actually i
have been living under a rock. Downloaded it at 450kbps and
am sat here enjoying it as i type this pointless story.
My favourite so far is All I Need. Reckoner has just started
and is sounding good so far.
I wish it wasnt so early so that i could whack the volume
right up.
