Ulrich Schnauss - Goodbye

Anyone heard this yet - out today? It really is dreadful,
production is absolute terrible - everything is fuzzy,
muffled, most of the album just floats through one ear and
out the other.

There's also a song on Quicksand Memory EP called Medusa,
which is so badly produced/arranged it beggars belief. Can't
believe he fell down the slippery slope so quickly.

i like it quite a bit.

"production is absolute terrible - everything is fuzzy"

haha don't you think that's how he wanted it?

he made tracks out of hundreds of layers or something to get
that rich sound.

"goodbye" is so good for summer journeys :)

Obviously that's how he wanted it - it's fashionable to
bathe your music in effects, distortion and grime these
days. The problem is, he's messed it up. This aint'
Slowdive.

have u bought it or teethed the pre-production mp3s like
everyone else? and if u have maybe you'd like to stop
complaining as the production has been changed on the proper
release

Excellent album. So much electronica these days lacks the
warmth and humanity. I don't understand "everything is
fuzzy" - it's meant to sound like that. If the music has no
effect go and listen to Universal Indicator.

well said :) i love this album too :) it hits the right
spots, you know. not too "pop", not too easy, very rich and
full of space.

sexjourneysummerbeachmagicstarsskiesyeah.

everything :)

As I said it's obvious the effects are intended, but the
final mix simply isn't coherent. Besides that the tunes are
dour, the whole album wanders aimlessly and struggles to
capture your attention - it's so linear. Still, 2 classics
out of 3 aint bad.

offline jules from United States on 2007-06-27 06:20 [#02097535]

i think this album is very far from linear..if anything his
first 1 was linear. Goodbye is a big gamble that paid off.
Personally, I really dig the production, parts remind me of
MBV Loveless, one of, if not the best records ever in that
genre

I thought this album sounded like MBV meets Enya.

It's alright for the first four or five tracks but i got
really bored after that.

That's quite a good average, many albums I listen to often
have just one or two good tracks like the new Chemical
Brothers album.

i know what you mean, loveless is the same, awfull, fuzzy,
muffled production...

talking about "Shine" and "Stars" i think these could have
been good songs but then they were botched by crap vocals.
First track is just as good as anything he's done and once
you get past those two vocal songs, you're pretty
safe...maybe skip "Medusa" depending on what you like. this
album is fine. great stuff. things like "Einfeld" are what
really do it for me.

is it just me or is the piano on 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow'
from a Global Communication track?

this is my favourite enya album. i really do like it a lot
but i'd be very embarrassed if i was caught listening to it.

offline magicant from Canada on 2007-08-24 17:25 [#02114092]

i think it is a very sad album...like he is actually saying
goodbye...i think the music is based around this "goodbye"
concept - eh?

Still need to listen/but this. Perhaps I will d/l that
track "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" and report back if the
piano is indeed from a Global Communication track. Don't be
surprised given their Chapterhouse reworkings.

the title track is the best song on the album. i regret
buying this.

if it's what i'm thinking of, it may be similar to a Global
Comm style thing but this is not from any GC track.

I sort of lost respect for Schnauss when me claimed to be a
communist and then in the same breath slated the whole P2P
thing (which, ironically, is how I discovered him and why I
went on to buy Far Away Trains Passing By).

yesterday i was thinking about creating an "i was listening
to enya today, and..."-thread, but i see i'm already too
late.

btw, schnauss? never liked his music. or that other horrible
stuff that's been brought by the morr label. it's all
terrible shitstained shit. and i'm not generalising either.
go figure.
