ottawa chalk graffiti party

So the city recently power-washed a 2000+ square hopscotch
game some local kids had drawn on the street. In response, a
bunch of people got together sunday night for a "chalk
graffiti party", drawing hopscotch and art from downtown all
the way to city hall. Of course, I was there to take
pictures:

Ottawa Chalk Graffiti Party

The police officer in photos 17 and 19 demanded I stop
taking photographs: that demand was ignored ;)

The Ottawa Citizen wrote up the event. It's funny to read about
it from their perspective:

"A mystery street artist left a message for politicians and
bureaucrats outside City Hall on Monday, drawing hopscotch
courses on the sidewalk in support of some Glebe children
who had their elaborate chalk-work wiped out by a city
cleaning truck last week."

and by the way, i hadn't really read your post when i posted
either of those comments, i was too busy calling Valor out
on what he is.

It's great there's uproar over a 2000+ square ft hopscotch
game being prevented. there have been many cases in the UK
where kids just playing a normal game of hopscotch on the
road have been not only prevented, but issued with ASBOs
(anti-social behaviour order).. and yet there's really no
public outcry.

it's nice those in canada aren't as placid.

thats awesome. congs to ottawa.

'no cabbage here' made me lol.

what baffles me though, regarding your photos, is how you
manage to take a picture of a bucket of coloured chalk, in
black and white. your ability to use b&w where you
absolutely positively shouldn't is fascinating.

What a horrid mess, when I was a lad we would break windows
and laugh at old ladies coming out of the hairdresser's.

You all should be thrown in jail.

generally, i only remove color when the color looks bad or
breaks the mood. in this case, pale pastel colors under
flash+orange street lighting looked pretty bad.

nevermind. just checked all exifs.

in case you're looking/saving up for an external flash, i'd
definitely recommend this one:

i had the flash strength dialed back a lot, but still seems
a bit much in some shots.

generally, i don't like using flash. don't shoot a lot of
night pictures, either. that might change if i keep playing
reporter, though.
