It's a 17 minute video piece Chris was commisioned to do for
some museum in the UK. The soundtrack was done by Aphex Twin
and from what I've read the video involves the form of the
body and sex admist black surreal backgrounds. The still
images are AWESOME... so I can only imagine what the video
is like. Unfortunately the video is not commercially
available and is almost impossible to see... at least if you
live in the US.

Man that sounds crazy! Why is it so difficult to see?

Flex is Chris C experimenting with shapes, colours, lights,
the human body...etc. the afx "soundtrack" is a mix of
different tracks RDJ he's done; Gwely Mernans, Hankie (i
think)...SawII. it fits pretty well with the pictures.

I'd love to see it. Just the idea of Gwety Mernans being
involved with some haunting or odd imagery alone, is
awesome.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, and I hope that no
one is overly bothered by this.
I'm trying to write a report on Flex for an Art History
Course, but it is essential that I watch the whole video in
order to do so. I've been scouring the Internet, but to no
avail.
Well, until I got here, sort of. I don't want to stir
anything up by mentioning jand, since he is no longer with
us, but did anyone acquire his file, and was it around the
full 15 minutes?

Please and Thank you!

Quit your course now. You're going to fail if this is part
of your research.

I make a point of doing research on multiple fronts - I
simply like to cover all of my bases. Don't assume that I am
only using online sources.
I am covering the piece from a structuralist point of view,
and it would behoove me to view the piece in its entirety,
as I structuralism is most concerned with an art piece in
and of itself, before any other aspects.

"as I structuralism" ?

that doesn't make sense.

"Don't assume that I am only using online sources"

I didn't. I wrote "if this is part of your research"

I apologize for the typo. I couldn't edit the post after
making it.
It should say "as structuralism is..."

I admit that my second post was reactionary, and I made my
own assumptions about what you were saying. "This" as a
pronoun, does not define whether you mean asking people on a
forum or viewing the piece. I should still be able to bs my
way through the paper based on other people's experience of
flex, but I would really prefer not to. sorry for jumping to
conclusions

I've seen it I think. It was him mixing live so it might
have been different but the version I saw was easily over 10
minutes. It was a three screen jobby which is probably why
it can only be viewed in certain circumstances, is not
online etc.

They played the full version ages ago in the break of the
London Sinfonietta/Squarepusher/Jamie Lidell performances in
2004 I saw it twice on that tour. The only other place I've
seen it was someones YouTube video from the big chill
festival in the uk, it had the video playing before he mixed
and chopped it up with afx's elephant song. I just looked
for it but they must of taken it down due to all the graphic
content and also because the user had uploaded a video of
the whole set which Chris Cunningham might not have been
happy about.

the dvd only contains the first minutes of it,
which is a shame cause it looks really brilliant.
still the filmed mpg has an impact.
