well that made me chuckle. If regular life is too tough, I'm sure the air force won't be.
From what I can gather the American armed forces seem to be either a bunch of cowboys or brain washed robots, bet hey, go for it.
If you're really like your internet persona then maybe you will benfit from a good kick up the arse doing drill, etc.
P.S. Don't forget that orange panels on the roof to designate friendlies could also be deadly orange rockets... best to shoot first, ask questions later.

so i dont really know about the usaf, but i have a friend in the army who joined for pretty much the same reasons (paying for college, life experience etc.) and he despises the army at this point (he's been in for more than 3 years now).
i think the biggest issue is that he isnt the type to just bend over for someone when they ask (maybe a reason why being in the army wasnt the best of ideas) so while theyre jerking off all their gung-ho hooah USA USA! compatriots, theyre telling him he's a fuckup and a piece of shit.
so yeah um dont just goin in thinking that because there are some benefits that you dont have to pay for them.

Jarhead is a good movie to keep you out of the military.
I know I wouldn't last in the military, not because of the job I'd be doing, but because of the people I'd be doing it with.
Besides, I'm not straight enough to join the army.

These opportunities are also provided elsewhere, and if they aren't, then they should be.
Sure, obeying can take strength, but only if you're opposed to what you're being told you should do or if you find it difficult, etc, and this isn't always the case. In the army, obeying can be used as a way of relieving yourself of the responsibility of your actions; you're "just" following orders; the choices wasn't yours to make; there is no other option.
Another thing from that commercial is the "strength of character" thing.. that doesn't really mean anything.. what's character? It also sends my thoughts to Nietzsche's "good, strong character" (which is a bad thing, mind you).
I hate quoting stuff, but he's got the sting, and it also generally serves as a description of Bush, who has indeed been described by the people who work with him as a "strong man who does what he thinks is right no matter what people say."
"Once the decision has been made, to shut your ears even to the best counter-arguments: a sign of a strong character. Also an occasional will to stupidity."

Well, that's the shame here in this country; there aren't alternatives to what the military can offer (point for point anyway). That's not to say there aren't opportunities though, the trick is the get the truth up front, and know what you're getting into.
The unfortunate thing is that Bush has so pushed the US into public view with a bad foreign policy, that his persona has become a picture of america, and that really isn't the case here. The military is an arm of our legislature here, and unfortunately bad policy has our military looking bad as well.

Well, the formation of militia is usually a responsive act. I could see opposition to a 'pro-active' military, but as long as we have something (land, religion, concepts, property, life) to defend, there will always be need for someone to defend it. Not that I agree with all of those things, but none-the-less, there you have it.
What should look bad in your eyes, are the causes for the formation of militiaries... not the militaries themselves.

word on that
If it's a store that sells something you can know stuff about (in other words, not mcdonalds), you go in there a few days a week, talk about what they sell.. example: record store. Drop by, talk about music with the staff, ask for recommendations, but then show that you really know stuff, you were just hoping they'd know more.

i wanted to go to the first one back in october when i still lived there but at the time i was unemployed (which is why i moved back to cali around thanksgiving) so i couldn't afford the $100+ ticket just to go all by myself. but i wasn't to upset because the cards weren't as nice as they could have been. this time tho wanderlei is worth it himself and takanori and shogun and henderson oh and trigg those are the main guys i wanna see. but the trip out there alone is another $100 in gas. that and the fact that my car is on it's last leg. i'll try and find a viewing party at a bar somewhere to watch it on ppv at least.

Still highly considering it if I can't find anything worthwhile by the month's end. To do these "other things in life" you all are suggesting because of any "talent" I may have, I need to go back to college. I have NO money to go to college right now, and the way to get money is by working, right? Well, I can't find a job, (even at McDonalds). So, no easy job > no money > no college > no better job. THAT's why I'm saying the air force might be good. Besides, OFFUT AFB (StratComm) is here in Omaha. I'd be good if I did it.

theres nothing wrong with wanting to join the armed forces, it can offer good prospects. and politics aside, and i admire the job they do. regardless of the politics of war or justification or morality or whatever, your countries armed forces are there to get their arses kicked or kick arse so you don't have to.
if however you join with the mentality of wanting an easy life you'll be in for a shock and you'll fucking hate it.

Unless the US army band needs a new pompom semaphore, I can't imagine you being a us army member who would be of any use. I'm a big fan of war. You don't have the character to be an effective soldier. You might be smarter than the average US soldier, but that's hardly a challenge. Though, having just thought of some poxy two-frame swift_jam.gif on Dan Rather's Fallen Heroes, I'd say go for it. You're a fucking clown anyway! ha ha!
