gesom md

i saw the gescom reissue of their md-thing and wondered how
that works ... they write it´s splitted up in ~ 80 pieces
(different "songs") and it´s meant to be listened by
randomness so that you get new tunes everytime you listen
... when i think of my md it takes always a little time till
it switches the songs, so is "fluid" listening possible with
that md?

yeah, i thought of just that when i sat on the bus today...i
have a sony MD, and it takes about 2-3 sec. i guess before
it switches to another track. it's only a year old and i
want to get rid of it. making a MD is too much work.

uh, how do you mean that?
the typing of the songs or what? i wonder cause i love that
little thingys and think they are not much work in any way
for what you get ... so watcha mean? :)

copying tracks onto a MD from a CD...takes too much time,
that's what i meant. i prefer listening to CD on Discmen.
Then i can listen to "new"music everyday and not the same
old Minidisc that i made perhaps 5 weeks ago.

hmmm, i like to make mixes - and i change them alot -
another thing i like about md, cause the quality doesn´t
get worser (when i remember my old mixtapes :)) ... i don´t
know, i don´t care about the recording time, cause when i
record an album most of the time i don´t know it, so it
doesn´t matter cause i listen through the whole thing then
...

Im fond of doing mix albums... :) The only bad thing about
MD is the very slight drop in quality due to the
compression. Cant wait to get hold of the new CD medium that
records very high frequencies.....

yeah, i heard about that too, that hey want to drop that
compression somehow - do you know some more ´bout that?

i also heard that you can drop the compression by yourself
(like autechre did with gescom md) - info?

there was a drive produced in japan, to save files on MD,
that would be cool, some mp3's, wavs, pics, etc. but that
was an exote, sadly...

I think the 'compression' on a MD is also an audio
compression. Like a compressor plugin effect, as well as
file compression. So it's like pressing the 'loudness'
button on a car stereo. You 'compress' the audio making the
quiet parts seem louder. That is the compression Ae
overcame.

Besides that the Gescom sounds have a beautiful 8-bit sound
to them half the time so it would be hard to notice any
quality drop.

i like the idea of putting it on random and having a
different listening experience each time!!!
