Where did your name come from?

offline Phone from Paris (France) on 2007-02-02 07:26 [#02043500]

Hi. I've noticed a lot of you have very odd names! I'm
wondering; why did you choose your name? I can see some that
make sense (for example, redrum is from The Shining, dave_g
could just be Dave and a surname, etc.) but others are just
silly!

I chose my name because I like to play on those old musical
toys, the stylophones, but I thought "phone" would be a bit
better! It is something essential and obvious but nobody had
taken it!

exactamundo, lack of imagination probably, but I get fed up
with usernames and stuff. I already have a name, so why not
use it. dave was already taken, so I appended an underscore
and first letter of my surname to make dave_g.

I made it up by combining the words dog and belch.
sneakattack would later go on to say I shouldn't have used
an underscore inbetween the words and he gave a reason that
was something to do with computers (what a suprise) but I
like the underscore for aesthetic reasons.

Underscores are the proverbial bomb. Geek chic, perhaps?

I always admired Trent Reznor for saying that one of the
reasons he chose 'nine inch nails' as his name was because
it looked great in print.. and he's right. I should have
been uviol_. No actually that would suck.

my name doesnt have anything to do with slim shady, i got it
from my friends who used the word for very sneeky dark
people, i thought it was a cool name so yeah, and it also
fits my personality, even though i can be a nice guy alot of
the time.

Shade is an old word for spectre and so is phantom.
Isn't that interesting?

Mine is a bastardization of Aphex. I really should have
given it more thought but I didn't think I'd be stuck with
it for six fucking years and counting. I probably would have
named myself Heatdeath if I could do it all over again.
