I have just bought my first computer in about 7 years.
2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512 120GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm Superdrive 6x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
I need your advice:
What is the best/easiest software to use to make my own DJ sets with mixing etc?
Is there a bluetooth/airport gadget I can get which will plug into my amp so I can hear my computer on my stereo?
Where can I download Mac stuff apps and the like?
Has anyone had any success running windows?

there should be airport stuff for doing that, it's probably expensive though.

You can use Airport Express to wirelessly stream music from iTunes to your stereo.

mixing: traktor and/or ableton live
audio over wireless: airport basestation with airtunes, but that will only stream of itunes
apps and the like: versiontracker or www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/
i'm running a bootcamp partition with xp on it, and it works well

Let's not turn this into a Mac rubbishing thread. I've bought it now and will be using it for the forseeable future.

oh, don't worry i wasn't trying to. when i opened the thread there hadn't been any replies yet, so i was just tryin' to forewarn of any possible naysayers. but it looks as though redrum approves, so you're probably safe from any impending trash talk, although never completey.

I have a black one as well. only with 2 gigs of ram.
about running windows: like vlari said, you could use bootcamp. only downside is you have to restart to get into windows. personally i prefer parallels. with parallels you can run windows inside mac osx. and the performance is great as well. i use it mostly to run office apps (excel, access, powerpoint).

Traktor DJ Studio and Ableton Live for the DJ shit
For "warez" hit up BitTorrent, a handy little thing to have for the mac is Serial Box, its a program that has a HUGE list of compiled serials for mac apps, its updated every month and can also be found on BitTorrent. (Demonoid is a good site for alot of Mac torrents)
For running windows it depends on what your gonna use it for, if games and anything with 3D acceleration go the Bootcamp route, for basic windows stuff get Parallels.
And like others said the Airport Express for streaming music as its the easiest and has good integration with iTunes.

i think it's just a simple matter of the number of consumers versus the number of different computer manufacturers. apple makes just as good as a product if not a little better (depending on personal preferences) as the next manufacturer. so, naturally when you have a great product word of mouth spreads over time, thus producing the effect which you have just now observed about, "everyone seems to be getting apples." makes sense, right? at least that's apples hope for the success of their new iphone. they believe if they can capture one percent of the market share, that would equate to 10 million sales somehow. look for those to be popping up soon. although, i wouldn't imagine you'd actually see too many, as they run a tad bit pricey. only $499 for the cheap version! of course with a two year subscription to cingular, currently the only compatible wireless carrier. exclusivity and all, ya know.

So my 'important' question has still to be answered, I don't need to listen to iTunes through my stereo, I need to be able to listen to Real Player (BBC Radio). Is there a way to do this wirelessly (Bluetooth,Airport etc.)???

I'm pretty sure it's possible. I don't remember the name of it exactly, but my brother has one of those boxes you connect to the stereo and then you stream over wireless connection of some sort to the box from the mac. Doing this does not require a special program, you just select the device itself as your main audio out device in the main settings thingie or something and then all audio output is streamed to it just as if you'd just used a cable from your output to the stereo minus the cable.

I thought it would be possable but I can't seem to find a device to do this. I really expected this to be common technology there have been USB spekers for as long as USB has existed and it is not a far streach of the imagination to do this. Is what I want that unusual?
Next time you speak to your brother ask him what it is called.

yeah, it probably doesn't mention it, but I suppose it's like having a wireless soundcard, so it'll just be like having two soundcards installed I think. He's coming to live with me for the weekend because he's got some work to do here, so I'll ask him then.

Some dowload clients you should try are: transmission - bittorrent ssx - soulseek amule - emule you can find most of apps there. Good luck with your mac!...and windows forget about it! My system has 2 years with no antivirus and it still works like a charm :)!

you could buy an FM transmitter and plug it in the computer's audio out. any electronics store should have one. they're used to play ipods and stuff in the car stereo.

if you decide to get one of those airport thingies, this little app will allow you to stream any audiosource through it. it's a bit sucky on streaming the sound from a videoplayer, like vlc (a mate told me), but it should do what you ask for

just got pretty much the same, except i got my hdd upgraded to 160 gb. fuckin love it so far.
windows runs like butter, havent had a single problem with the comp since i bought it.
ableton rules for mixing (just started playing with it myself, im doing a short half hour/45 minute-ish trial set at my house this weekend), and is available in ub if you buy it, but at the moment *cough* other sources *cough* have only got a windows version available (which isnt even that much of a problem, considering its still coded to take advantage multithreaded processors), but this should be solved soon enough.
