cygnus shut up, its a great product. yes its expensive. good
things are expensive. 8GB is enough to carry a lot of music,
photos, all your contacts (and mine and his and all of
xltronic's). The battery life is 5hours while running calls,
video, internet. have u ever made a 5 hour phonecall on your
cellphone? it has touchscreen, it has a big screen, it's
thin, it looks great outside and in the UI. give me one
damnit.

$599 is what most brand, new cellphone models costs - and
they're lacking like 99% of iphone's features.

For that price I have a Samsung D-900 (with 512mb memory
card), and a 30gb Creative mp3 player.

Well, as P T Barnum said, "there's a sucker born every
minute."

I think most companies use that truth to their great
financial gain.

Now now dear boy, don't put words into my mouth. I didn't
say anything expensive. There's a lot of crap that's
being bought based mostly on its hype and on its marketing.
It's the way of the Western World (Image is

World; at that time we're doomed.

for how much money could u merge the samsung and the
creative, make+ing it thin, and having a touchscreen, and
having the features of the iPhone. gee it's a very good
product why cant you admit it, its not about image it just
looks fine.

thats like saying for the money of a bottle of champaigne i
can buy 10 bottles of cheap vodka. I get drunk anyways soo..

I bought the Samsung after reading many reviews online, and
weighing up which phone seemed best for me. I hadn't heard
of the phone before that, as I'm not a big Mobile Phone
freak.

I bought the Creative mobile phone because it was very
reasonably priced (£140), their customer support is known
to be good, the software is easy-to-use and has a good GUI,
and it doubles as a portable hard-drive which is very
useful.

Why would I want to merge the two? And you're implying that
Creative are inferior to Apple, which they aren't. And why
would I ever want to watch video on a crappy little screen
through headphones (or through speakers if at home, when I
might as well watch it on my laptop or tv)?

It looks like you've been suckered by such tat as
'touchscreen' and 'ultra-thin'. Big whoopee. I think I can
live without touchscreen, and most phones an mp3 players
these days are thin enough already; I'm not obsessed with
having the thinnest, tiniest gadget.

It's not about image it just looks fine. What do you
think image means?

A Phone with no tactile buttons is like dating a hot girl
with no nipples.
This iPhone thing is also pretty huge and looks incredibly
fragile.

youd want to merge the two so you can use them at the same
time without droping one of them to the floor (I know you're
super clumsy), isn't that obvious?.

The screen is the biggest yet, yeah it sounds stupid to
watch movies on that thing, but im sure you have the power
of imagining a situation where you'd want to use that
feature (its about possiblilities maaaan!).

Thin means you can carry it around and it is not a nuisance
to carry it, it's called confort, i'm sure u understand. I
haven't been suckered into anything, my cellphone is a NOKIA
idontknowwhatmodelnumber but it's one that doesn't have
camera or even color screen, it has mono sound. I bought it
because it has a flashlight and snake 2, I wouldn'y buy any
other brand of phone other than nokia tho (fine phones),
well maybe apple, when i make more money. so you see, i'm
not obsesed with that either, I do have a nano and that's
because i can keep it in my jeans's pockets.
Touchscreen also means intuitive and user friendly you dont
have to navigate a menu for everything.
I said fine as when you use fine like you'd say fine wine.
It's escellence imo.

Amazingly, I've managed to have my mp3 player tucked neatly
in my back pocket (with many GBs of great music to
listen to) and use my phone at the same time if I need to.

And no, I can't really think of a time when I'd need to
watch a video so badly when not either at home or cinema or
round a friend's house that I need to pay hundreds of pounds
for it. Normally, if I'm in a situation where I fancy
something to do, I'll read a book. Great things, books, and
not a touch-screen in sight.

And are we in such shallow times when bypassing the use of a
menu becomes a big selling-feature? Oh. Wow. I've seen other
people's iPods and I certainly didn't find them as intuitive
or user-friendly as my mp3 player.

we're at times that theres nothing new to discover, no new
direction to go, science is close to it's peak, art peaked
500 years ago. Yes.. bypassing menu is the greatest thing.

God marlowe, just because you don't think it's worth the
money doesn't mean anyone who buy's it is a sucker.
Obviously people value this, where everything is combined
into a nice little package, and obviously it's more
convenient then having a separate player for everything.
Whether you think you need that to live or not, it's still
more convenient, and people are willing to pay the money for
that. Doesn't make them suckers though!

hmm, a lot of crap in this topic.
i'm sure as hell not gonna get one, but if you've got the
money, by it seems like a useful phone.

i dont really see it as a music player/phone. like, it does
combine ipod with phone in a nice little package, but this
is only the first model (surely there'll be more more more).
it only has 8gig and theres bound to be glitches and
nuisances along the way. except, for a phone with internet
and all those nice features in a nice looking touch screen
product dealio, with 8 gig to randomly store music and other
bits and pieces, i see no reason to have anything against
this product.

To all the crap about the iPhone being a useless gadget for
suckers with too much money (Marlowe, one dog_belch is more
than enough already): do you actually realise that in
business-life all those pda's, blackberry's, uberfunctional
cellphones, routeplanner proggy's are a necessary evil
nowadays? Obviously, what Apple did here, was combining all
AND improve on the functionality (making it easier to use by
throwing away the keyboard). This is a huge step forward. I
agree with you that for the people on the streets it's just
an expensive gadget. From the business point of view it's a
leap forward (only if they'd sync easily with pc's
though....which is not clear at this point. but i hope it's
clear what the potential is of this gadget).

I had a phone MP3 player 5 years ago. I listened to Mp3s on
it only about 20 times and went back to using my old phone
within weeks. Having a phone that shares batteries with
something "trivial" like a music player/handheld games
console is a bad idea. You end up either flattening your
battery and then desperately needing to use your phone
before you have a chance to recharge it, or you never use
the "trivial feature" for fear of this happening.

there should be wireless charging in the near future anyway.

*raises eyebrows* Wireless charging? Are you sure? Not
having a crack, but have you read anything to that effect or
just hypothesising? It's an idea I've been interested in for
years, but last time I read up about it, people still hadn't
found a safe way of doing it (other than kinetic/solar/etc.
for low power devices- not actual "transmission" of energy
as such).

That's true at first, yes. But it usually takes time for a
company to perfect a product. So yeah, if you get on the
band wagon immediately when a product comes out, you'll
probably be faces with sucky battery life, etc. But that's a
necessary evil the company has to face in order to perfect
that technology I think.
