I watched it yesterday (recorded it from the other night). I was expecting some mindless hollywood flick (I assumed it was the 2005 version), but was pleasently suprised to see a great John Carpenter film instead. Quality.

It's the best non-western western ever made, it's got the best soundtrack...ever made... it's one of the best films... ever made.

I bought the LP before seeing the film on advice from the bloke in the record shop and I didn't regret it.
I'm not really into films too much, the film was pretty good.... I'm pretty sure it beats the modern remake, but the soundtrack is superb....cylob dropped it in one of his radio sets on here... might dig it out and have a blast. If I recall correctly there are a couple of nice Rhodes piano mellow tracks too, I think when the police woman gets shot?? Anyway, it's good stuff.

I thought it was cheesy. That dude asking about having a smoke all the time. Just pissed me off.
The hollywood remake was fucking terrible. Made me love the original.

It's the atmosphere dude, the atmosphere. Plus it's a little cheesy pulp fiction, sure, where men are men and women are pretty fucking hard as well, but that's part of the appeal.
The "remake" is not bad though, it's a different film sure but, .. it's by no means a fuckover of the spirit of the original like some films. But it doesn't have a shred of the tension or atmosphere which makes the claustrophobic original a classic.

This is the only Carpenter film I've watched and not thoroughly enjoyed. I've only seen it once though.

Agreed. It's almost like a horror film in places. For me, it reminded me of being in the police station in various Resident Evil games.
