ucla student forgot to bring his id to the library, so the
cops taze him. after immobilizing and handcuffing him, they
taze him another 4 times.

and it's all on video.

btw, this happened yesterday.

here's a newspaper article.

See shit like this should be a turning point. People should
wake up and realise that civil liberties will one day cease
to exist but in name only. But they wont. What the fuck
happened.

Um. I know it looks bad, but you don't know what that guy
may have done before the video was shot, or even if he had a
warrant and a flight risk attached to his name.

Admittedly, a small portion of the police will abuse their
power and give a bad name to the rest of police officers,
but its wrong to assume either way what happened until all
the facts are in order.

seriously though, i don't know which is worse - the conduct
of the police or that of the students. at one point there's
at least 60 students standing, just gawking like the dumb
yank fucks they are, thinking that they're powerless.

had that happened here, in my college anyway, i guarantee
you after the second tazer shock those cunts would've been
beaten within inches of their lives by the onlookers.

electrical shock is used by police forces across the united
states;

in this video you can see a group of police officers using
electricity to torture and kill a man whose family called
for an ambulance as he had a seizure; yet the police showed
up first: google video link

the man was tied down and restrained and had no way of
getting up but they just kept shocking him until he died.
it's evil, wicked, and absolutely intolerable

electrical shock is TORTURE!

What I mean is, don't get so caught up in your programed
reaction so that you stop thinking, or lose objectivity.
Snap judgements and poor quality reactions are why the world
is on the brink of annihilation. Just because you aren't
conservative doesn't mean you aren't a part of the problem.

matter if they are criminal or police.

right well, i never would've guessed since your discourse is
usually of a very high standard. also, i'm particularly
riled up right now.

as for your other post - "don't get so caught up in your
programmed reaction".. ?

You're telling me I should discard all humanity? All empathy
for other people? Maybe you should've read the newspaper
article first, as i did, as it outlines the events
surrounding the incident that was caught on camera, and
proves there was no need for such action or aggression on
the part of the police.

tact to react out of your emotions, at least until its been
give a chance to go through the proper filters.

I did read the article. It still didn't seem to have
anything from the officers side of the story. The fact that
it quoted words like fuck and its overall tone kind of
indicated to me that the article might have already made up
its mind without hearing all sides of the story as well.

Yes, it didn't have anything from the officers' side of the
story, since they wouldn't be so good as to provide such
material. they're busy trying to figure out how to spin
this.

the fact that a word like fuck is quoted in the article is
certainly an indicator of how unprofessional and
unscrupulous the author is. he or she should be taken out,
beaten with a first-edition copy of Joyce's Ulysses for
approximately one hour as a fair and just reprimand.

The ban on Ulysses - that fucking indecipherable, anal,
profane filth - should then be re-enacted.

People need to learn a different way of responding to things
that they don't like than anger. Anger is going to drive
people to kill a lot more often than reason. But if you
decide that reason is not for you, and you would rather
drive into things without thinking about it, I guess thats
your choice. But as far as I am concerned it doesn't make
you any better than the people who decided it would be best
to invade iraq, or drop the bombs on hiroshima, or anything
else. Thinking like that is easy, and its poison, and its
going to kill everybody one of these days.

Read what I am saying because it is true. People need to
learn to shift their perceptions sometime down the line. I
am not saying let bad people get away with whatever they
choose to try to get away with, cops or criminals or
whatever.

that feeling of anger isn't wrong. it's the feeling of
injustice,

and in some cases, the only way to deal with it is by
playing the enemy at their own game. the police are normal
people. just like you and me. but when they wear that
uniform, they become something else entirely. they become
consumed by feelings of power and authority. they are so
fucking deluded, so fucking far gone, that nothing can be
done for them.

sometimes war is necessary for change. it's a part of being
human. we're not half as civilized as you would like to
believe.

No they don't. Some of them do. But its like saying
everybody who smokes pot becomes a heroin addict. Pot
doesn't cause people to become junkies, it just so happens
that some people become junkies after they have smoked pot.
Likewise, not all police are assholes. It just so happens
that some people become police because it gives them some
authority to hold over people. But to generalize upon a
person because of their job is not better than a lot of
other kinds of biggotry.

And, no. Using someones tools against them isn't justified.
Its like trying to justify genocide with genocide. By rising
with anger to something that extreme, it makes you come
across as extreme, invalidating what you may be saying to a
lot of the people that you need to reach in order to make
change.

I don't agree with what the police in that video did, but I
also don't agree with people openly going around and saying
that those people should be shot. However, I also think that
justice is rarely swift, for any sides of the scale.

What I do know is this. A lot of the people who become
police officers do sincerely want to help their community.
Unfortunately, instead of helping their community, they end
up watching drug dealers who are doing no good for anybody
but themselves, walk out of jail after one day with mearly a
slap on the wrist and a promise to appear before a judge
three years later who will most likely shake their finger at
them and tell them to leave without any penalty. These are
the same people that will cut the hamstring of junkies who
owe them ammounts as little as ten dollars when they don't
pay.

After a while, they get a bit jaded, and lash out. Not all
of them do, but some, and those officers need to be dealt
with on appropriate terms when the time arrives. But that
involves members of the public going about intelligent means
with which to inform the proper channels about what
happened.

Probly the best thing that could have happened there was
someone calmly asking the officer for their badge number,
which is what happened. Its illegal for an officer to not
disclose that info, so they themself could be charged. All
police work leaves a paper trail for that very reason, so
the officers involved can be identified by reports of what
incidents occur.

Likewise:

I know that a lot of people become paramedics because they
want to help their community and make sure that people are
given the proper medical treatment they need. However, a lot
of their calls end up responding to poor people in ghettos
who have overdosed, or have just been assaulted over drugs,
or many other similar things. After a while of trying to
revive the same person day after day who chronically
overdoses but never seems to die, it can kind of wear on
you.

Personally, I think a lot of the problems in our society
could be spared if instead of making hard drugs illegal,
the government provided them to junkies. It would not cost
more than the legal or medical implications of the illegal
drug trade. It would end up paying for itself.

I don't see how being worn out by junkie/dealer
relationships applies to what those officers did in that
University building or what that riot police officer did to
that woman.

I agree that these are just incidents though, I still
believe most police officers have their feelings of superior
power in check. But I do think that there are many rotten
apples among them and I cannot understand how they can apply
to become a cop, pass the screening and be handed a badge
and gun. Or is there no screening?

I wonder what happened to the officers that killed off that
man as shown in the video above...

Its one of the many different parts of the problem, but its
one of the ones that I see the most, so I can talk about it
with more understanding from both sides. Part of the reason
the smaller courts are so backlogged is because of thousands
upon thousands upon thousands of $5 cases where the people
who were arrested were stealing to pay for crack or chrystal
meth. The cops get jaded because any work they do never ends
up getting thrown out of court, because the judges are too
overworked to give each case the thought that it should
require.

Its not just the drug trade, but its a larger part of the
problem than most people realize.
