Extras episode 5

After what I saw as a brilliant episode last week, albeit a
slight dip, tonights was right up there with the second and
third.

My ratings so far:

Episode 1 - 8/10
Episode 2 - 10/10
Episode 3 - 10/10
Episode 4 - 9/10
Episode 5 - 10/10

Bowie episode was great. Chris Martin one was pretty poor I
thought. I mean, Bowie did a new song, Martin did one of his
old ones. Not seen 5 but just felt I had to chip in.

extras is brilliant. it annoys me that mitchell & webb is on
after because its anti climatic and i so wanted that to be
as good as extras.

its was hilarious. this show has got a lot better in the
second series and ill be dissapointed if millman doesnt just
flip at some point in the future. he looks like he's heading
towards a nervous breakdown.

i think mitchell and webb lost its momentum so quickly but
then i generally think sketch shows are shit.

fuck the fast show.

really? i thought the fast show was one of the few sketch
shows i found consistently funny. but i was considerably
younger then.

penexpers, i'm glad you agree haha.

that mock the week is on after tho does compensate somewhat.
russel howard, dara o'brien and frankie doyle are funny as
fuck. and that bald andy dude is pretty good too.

not a M & W look fan but laughed a bit at this week's one,
the anne robinson jab was good.

i fucking love extras, but haven't seen ep 5 yet. season 2
is superb so far.

i actually like mitchell & webb too, it's not SUPER DUPER
COMEDY but it's decent enough. episode 2 is my fave so far.

Im with dan_belch. The Chris Martin episode was generally
shit. The idea was pretty funny but the whole episode was
just too outlandish, for want of a better word. Last nights
was good. Really liked it.

I had thought that Chris Martin was parodying Coldplay's
music with that song, and then someone informed it actually
WAS a Coldplay song.

Thought episode V was great, Extras really is a fantastic
show, and has developed so marvelously over the two
seasons... hope it continues into a third otherwise this
Thursday's episode'll be the last, and THAT will be a
bummer.

My ratings vary slightly (+ or - 2) per episode but are
generally concurrent with yours.

Overall average for series so far - 7.8.

An increase of 0.6 on the first series.

Compared to The office, however, it is -1.1.

Let's see how the last episode goes and do these stats
again.

10s.

The last two episodes of the office were a horrible
compromise in artistic vision. To turn David Brent into some
lovable fool instead of the horrible mysoginstic racist
fuckwit that he was runied the series in my eyes to a
certain extent. It's only with the passage of time that I
can again recognise how great the series really was. Except
the last two episodes.

Points: 24588 Status: Lurker | Followup to felch king: #01987740

I think the whole point of Brent, and of Andy Millman, is
that they're not horrible...fuckwits, but weak and flawed
characters who, if they would only stand up for themselves,
would not have half the problems that they do... which is
why The Office reached a real emotional peek when Brent
finally stood up to his boss and his 'friend' (forgot their
names!)

yea i loved the way the office wound up... extras isn't
nearly as good, and it relies too much on pure humiliation
factor, but it's definitely got some gold moments, and I
hope it gets a third series.

Brent was a fucking cunt. The way he treated that disabled
girl. The way he treated all women. The way he treated black
people. The typical type of middle management racist that i
have encountered in my work. His behaviour on red nose day.
HE WAS A FUCKER. The last two episodes tried to rewrite his
character. GET YER FACTS STRAIGHT.

Andy Milman is not a dislikable charcter. He is an everyman.
Like Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm. A bit too much
like him if you ask my opinion. But still, Extras is still
a good show. I love When the Whistle Blows. I would like to
see that commisioned on ITV. I have seen worst sitcoms shown
before.

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2006-10-16 17:59 [#01987975]

It becomes less and less belivable as it goes on, I find
myself enjoying more the Steve Merchant character, his
flushing the turd turn was genius. But otherwise it's
becoming more SitCom and expecting more suspension of belief
in order to be funny, sadly.

powerful ending.

It's probably right to end it here. I just hope he keeps up

Gervais is against strength in numbers. He cut the
podcasting short (although he did a lot of shows with Pilk
and Merchant on XFM), The Office and now Extras. He's
quality over quantity to the extreme.

My mouth is frothing in anticipation for tonights last ever
episode (probably). This is from Radio Times:

6/6

Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais) is on the way up. He's Jonathan
Ross's new best friend - lots of sunbathing and water fights
at the presenter's country home - and there's the chance of
a part in a film with a huge Hollywood star. Andy is also
ready to fire his useless agent Darren Lamb (Stephen
Merchant), who he catches in an embarrassing predicament.
But first, Andy has to undergo the ordeal of visiting a
seriously ill child in hospital at the behest of a pushy and
unpleasant mother. Cue a brilliant, toe-curling scene
involving guest star Robert Lindsay as a monstrously
annoying show-off version of himself: "One of Britain's
best-loved actors, and I can sing, I can dance and I've won
awards on Broadway." Hide behind your fingers as Lindsay, an
unwanted hospital visitor, launches into a songand- dance
routine before railing at the young patient and his mum for
not remembering Citizen Smith: "The most popular comedy of
the 1970s." It's the last episode, possibly ever, of Extras,
and it's a humdinger, perfectly rounded off with an
appearance from possibly the biggest surprise guest of them
all...

They haven't said that Extras is over, but they have said
there are other things they would rather do. Ricky Gervais
in particular has said they're interested in producing a
US-style drama series.

That last espisode was shit, I watched it before Mrs
Belch did, didn't say anything, let her watch it, and she
said the same. Gervais has gone the route of Richard Curtis,
oh posh people swearing or talking about sex, oooh, naughty!
The horrible laboured unfunny "crude" joke that goes on too
long and the only toe curling is at the thought that an
adult would write such bollocks, and then get a team of
people with a budget of thousands together to film it. And
then the little kiss off at the end about "critics" as if to
preempt criticism.... it was shit, you don't have to
be qualified in celebrity journalism to realise that. For a
comedy programme, it was embarassingly unfunny.

Here are the extras of episode 5:

6-5. The Couch - Inside Look (2:58) includes interviews with
Reni Santoni (Poppie), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Marc
Hirschfeld. They talk about how this episode dealt with
aborton. Also, Poppie pees on the couch in this one. Deleted
Scenes (3 Scenes - 3:25) - Jerry and George try out couches.
Kramer meets Poppie and gives him the wine and 5 Alarm Chili
