no... actually, i don't even know what a rss-feed is. is it
something that warns you when there are new updates on the
site?

Drunken: Xltronic's Messageboard RSS-feed is updated like 20
times per day.

I highly recommend an external RSS-reader. Try:
FeedReader

Nope.

I just don't need to do it to keep abreast of what's
happening.

However, I would like feeds for each thread so that if I'm
waiting for a reply then I can either create a live bookmark
in Firefox or add it to Feed Demon. Seeing sa clicking the
orange thing in Firefox 2 adds it to Feed Demon probably
that.

I still have the Podcast and news feeds though.

I never got anything, but I only had it when you first set
it up.. and I don't like external things.. I've pretty much
set my firefox up so that I don't even need windows for
anything but running firefox... I wish I could embed acid
pro and proper regular filebrowsing in it.. actually, I wish
firefox was my OS.

It's quite clumsy to use Firefox's extension for RSS-feeds.
Even 3rd party extensions are way behind a dedicated
external solution.

It's kinda neat to get a small notification in the
lower-right hand corner with new topic-titles from the
messageboard.

Click here to get a larger view of the FeedReader
screenshot below.

yes - you can read the first sentences of a topic, that's
nice.

Phobiazero: What would that be used for, i dont
understand...

Like avart said, "you can read the first sentences of a
topic".....

Cant I just click in the thread for that ?

Am I missing something.

offline Phobiazero from the next Xltronic (Sweden) on 2006-09-28 17:22 [#01979220]

the main point is to get a small notification for each new
topic, while you're doing other stuff on your computer. you
can surf other websites or do some wordprocessing,
whatever.. and each time a new topic is created over at
xltronic, you'll get instant notifications.

the screenshot above just shows the main application
interface for FeedReader.

you can add more rss-channels from other websites as well,
of course, and thereby increase the actual use from it. stay
tuned on what's going on, without actually visiting each
website. let the information come to you, not the other way
around.

well, try it... nothing to lose. get yourself an opinion. i
will gladly help you.... thad.

Awww shucks, I made a friend today :)

Ok I get the idea now, but believe me. THERE ARE TONS OF
TOPICS HERE I Dont want to be notified of them being
started. Do you want me to rattle of 20 people here, who
only start shite topics all the time ? (yes ive created a
few crappy threads over the past 7-8+ years, but its all in
good fun, the people here are great and the music news is
outstanding)

Thanks though for the detailed explanation.

i only signed up to find out what an rss feed actually does,
and the answer would seem to be not an awful lot.

I don't. I just haven't really gotten into reading rss yet.
I only subscribe to like 2 or 3, and I use live bookmarks
for them.

However, I just noticed that google rss reader has gotten a lot
better recently and I'll add xlt to that.

no, because I'm not exactly afraid of 'missing a thread' or
something.

I visit the board now and then, read what's up for offer at
the time.

oh, that's surprising. since you're a moderator, subscribing
to the rss-feed should be mandatory, to get alerted on nasty
topics. ;)

okay, thanks for the explanation...

i don't think i will use it though. i just have to click a
single button to get to the xltronic messageboard and i see
the new topics this way; i don't want to be alerted every
time a new topic is created, it would get on my nerves.
