god, this album is fucking great! i realize this place is
about IDM2, but this is worthy of a listen anyway. it leaked
a bit ago (few weeks?) but i just got it now. 5 fantastic,
perfectly flowing songs.

is it the same as her previous music or is the lyrics
different?

5 songs. 55 minutes. it's different and similar. it's
awesome. epics. lyrics "different"? i don't know what you
mean there, really. the lyrics are great, anyway. it's very
impressive, all of it.

She has a very.....special voice...I like some of her songs,
but a full albums worth of them is too much...

really looking forward to this album, nice to see xltronic
is as eclectic as ever! I don't think i've been to a message
board with so many people with great taste in music, well
for the most part ;)

oh and she's in the wire this month,

She doesnt do it for me, but i think it's because there's a
horde of scandinavian artists doing something similar to
that, and they are beginning to annoy me a bit.

But hey, if you don't mind a little pretentious, artsy
stuff, you should really check out this danish band Under
Byen

Just try to ignore the dude in the beginning

is it just me or does the vocals on sawdust and diamonds
have loads of cher style vocoder tuning going on?
epecially at the start of the song
sounds like the last second of certain words are being pitch
shifted a tone or two
or is that just her peculiar voice?

I want to hearr it, but I won't be getting it I don't think.
In the end I didn't enjoy The Milk-Eyed Mender as much as I
initially made out.

It's very different, though, so give it a shot first, yeah.

DP: I haven't really heard anyone make that kind of music
anywhere else, to be honest. I don't feel Ys is very
pretentious at all, calling music pretentious is actually a
bit of a crutch, even though I've regrettably resorted to it
in the past as well. Anyway, I didn't really like Under Byen
when I saw them at Roskilde.

Milk Eyed Mender was my album of the year for 04 and 05 :) I
even called Joanna the most important artist to emerge in
the 21st century. but i don't like Ys. I have a bootleg of
her performance at the green man festival where she does all
the songs off the record but without accompaniment. then the
album came out and i thought all the production and
orchestration was totally sucky. :(( The only track I can
listen to on Ys is Sawdust and Diamonds. the whole album is
worth it because of the goodness of that track. everything
else reminds me of fucking LOTR soundtrack or somesuch

I guess you are right, but i simply think it's her way of
singing that annoys me a bit. I would call Kate Bush very
pretentious, but i love her above anything else. Nick Cave
is pretentious.

Her songwriting is very excellent tho, its her voice that
sort of ruins it for me.

I'll be listening to this album later today... Well, I'm
having a sneakpreview at the first track right now....and I
suddenly realize that she could be some kind of female Tim
Buckley!

hmm...

it's a nice album, specially for folk standards, but it's
sort of too bland music for my taste.

i like it, but it doesn't grab your attention or provide any
surprises - it's just there.

the lyrcis may be interesting, but personally i put way more
attention to music. and this is just not challenging music
for me, what can i say. though it's more challenging than
most folk music.

to grab my attention i think. it's a nice album, but not
really outstanding for me. i like it more than her fist
album though. and i am a fan of nirvana.

i like it. emily is probably my favourite song on it. i
prefer the milk-eyed mender, though. i find that her voice
on her first album (a strangled lisa simpson) is more
exciting than what she does with ys. but i still like ys,
which is one of my few favourite albums from this year.

Big deal, bat 'tudes r cool

I like it, Emily is immediately appealing but the rest sort
of went in one ear and out the other, I'll give it some more
time. I can't get the weird Disney-esque string flourishes
out of my head for some reason.
