If you were to drink at home, "alone", how much would you consider to be a "safe" amount? (safe from starting you down the slide to alcoholism)
A remark from a guy who's living with us at the moment kind of startled me. He's a hardcore drinker who gets absolutely polluted when he goes out, but after a few weeks of living with us, he inquired as to how many cans i have a night, to which i replied "between six and eight."
he met my reply with a look of surprised concern and a half-hearted laugh and it got me thinking.. AM I SICK? perhaps even sick as a dog?

think that Drugas,or alcohol or smoking...same as the food we eat are necessary, are tools for our life,we msut take it!
to take things starts a cause in our body, and got effect. we choose how to feel, like choose what to take...and then we still feel with this thing.Alcohol, beers, whiskey or whatevea thing.
think if we feel inspired or alive or with good intetions motivations, this is good and help us to grow.
dont care is is sex or drugs,or talk with somebody.is up.
but, think if you only can get this state of mind satisfacyng with the things, like drugs,TV or sex...whatever Addiction..
then is wreck!!! *cos at same time, you start feel bored-and starts the fight!
and fighting we bored and kill the inspiartion and motivation to be.and to make...bla,vla...
never is late to be what we are,and do what we want, and fuck everybody if is right!!!!!
*thanks Martini Rosso for and Malboro inspiration.

6 to 8 a night? sounds a bit much to be honest, but what the fuck do i know.. i'm the kind a guy that lives with you.. not to big a fan of alcohol really, but when i drink i usually get really pissed, and i always have a hard day after. i'm not made for alcohol abuse. a glass of red wine or two a day i don't see as a problem..
anyway, i will go out to get crunk tonight. hitting the clubs of oslo. and as usual i will hate myself tomorrow.

obi, dannn, uviol.. yes, well it's not quite "alone".. it's just not out on a night. usually i would drink all of that while watching a movie or the sopranos, while xlting and chatting to people online, and more often than not, in the livingroom with the 3 other lads i live with. so it's not quite alone, but it's every night and it's not for any special occasion or anything.
i figure it might be because i've tried to cut down smoking, and if i drink then i HAVE to smoke, so therefore i'll definitely drink every night.. although i was doing so before i cut down on the fags.
anyway.. thanks for your replies.. i'll take it all into consideration

Aengus, you're concerned about not being able to sleep and put it down to getting into a bad routine. I do agree that it is definitely one of the causes of your problems, but I don't think that all the alcohol, fags, drugs etc are helping. I think the best thing you can do is try and cut everything right down, like you're doing with the smokes. It's not doing your body any favours and is almost definitely adding to the sleeping problem. When I go out and get slaughtered, I can go to bed at like 4 am and end up waking up at 7 or 8. Drinking really fucks up my sleeping pattern and I'm sure drinking that much is having a similar effect on you to some extent.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/content/articles/2005/01 /05/think_drink_alcohol_quiz_feature.shtml
I came across this website and I'm quite aware that there are only a few questions but I guess it gives you the general answer to your question, cinsidering your answers are often scoring the highest marks.
To me, the problem isn't that you're drinking alone, it's just the fact that you're drinking so much and I honestly think it's having an effect on you. Waking up at 3 or 4 pm most days isn't normal and it would be worthwhile cutting down on the drink to see if it helped.
You're trying to give up smoking because you're worried about getting cancer. It's therefore ridiculous to carry on drinking so much as it's also a huge cause of liver and stomach cancer as well as heart attacks. Drinking more than 60 grams of alcohol a day, which is equivalent to four to five glasses of wine, was associated with a high risk of developing liver cancer in a recent investigation. At the end of the day, if you're worrying about it. It's time to cut down.xx

No, he is concerned about his health, which is shown by the fact that he is trying to give up smoking. That's because he got bronchitis and his lungs are painful, it's not because anyone else has said anything. He is also concerned about the fact that he can't sleep or wake up in the mornings, which is why he visited the doctor. Not because anyone else told him he had a problem.
I'm not telling him he's fucked up. He has expressed concern about his health, including the possibility of drinking too much, and I am giving him my point of view, which is that if he wants to sleep better and improve his health then he could try and cut down on the alcohol.

on the contrary. I say it isn't as hard as smokers think; they just need to have some sort of excuse (often only to themselves) why they really don't want to quit smoking.
here's how you quit smoking
1: never smoke again
the end.
