Xltronic Dj Contest 2006

offline WooferAttack from Milano (Italy) on 2006-09-14 15:42 [#01970844]

Well, here my idea.

Our dear webmaster phobiazero will choice 10 tracks in
random order.
All competitors will have one or two weeks to mix, record
and send to phob their own works.

After that all mixes will be ready in the download section
and members should vote which one is the best.

Which will be the final premium for the winner? An official
xltronic t-shirt or just the glory.

What do you think?

\/\/.

you can do mixes in loads of software, i know it's
considered "untrue" though so of course it must
automatically be shit!

how bout different groups?

software vs decks

offline aron from saskatoon (Canada) on 2006-09-14 16:06 [#01970853]

^^^ thats a better idea.

Points: 26326 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

I'm game for doing this by the way.

Depending what the tunes are I'll either be software or
decks. However, I think it'd be cooler if we could choose
our own 10 tunes to try and impress with.

offline staz on 2006-09-14 16:11 [#01970856]
Points: 9844 Status: Regular

yeah, i'd choose ten noise tracks.

Be better to have a time limit than ten set tracks, say 20
mins, don't know, I'm not a DJ, what the fuck do i know.

tracks goes away...

it will be interesting to see in which order djs will mix
tracks, everyone will have own interpretation

isn't the idea of DJ-ing that the DJ chooses tracks, you
know, making it more personal/creative?

I'm not a DJ, so maybe I'm just insane.

You are mental, you are off the fucking.. there is no limit
to your madness.. you're just fucking.. gone, your brain,
whatever there ever was of it, has gone "blllarrrppp" and
fucked off. You ARE NUTS! Everyone knows the professional
DJs like Simon Bates or Dave Lee Travis get a set playlist
to play on the morning show and the only "creativity" they
have is providing a bit of banter. OK?!?!?!?!11

i agree with dog_belch about the "blllarrrppp " thing

stop winking at me!!

but seriously - this sounds like a fun idea, no harm in
making it more freeform, though. otherwise it sounds like
it's more a "who can mix tracks together the best"-contest,
which is fine, but not a DJ-contest.

then again, you know, the whole blllarrrppp situation..

offline oyvinto on 2006-09-14 17:16 [#01970910]

i will mix it together in protracker 1.5 beta

offline Dannn_ from United Kingdom on 2006-09-14 18:12 [#01970924]

I'll have a go at anything, but the original idea is too
restrictive and doing it with choice of tracks makes it just
the same as normal. perhaps if the participants had to come
up with a tracklist together somehow

hihi cool idea.; if there is a category for vinyl only dj's
who can choose their own 10 tracks I m in.

the idea with the 10 choosen tracks by somebody else can be
fun as well.. but works only for file-jockeys

FJ is not DJ

Who will be on the judging panel?

infact lastnite i spent most of the nite trying to mix my
own tracks into each other... some went well.. some... not
so well. But it was fun to do anyways.

There should be a timelimit on the mix, 20 mins(?) and a
pool of tracks which can be played. That way most people
will have most of the tracks available on their preferred
format.

To make it more interesting there could be a list to be
adhered to for the first part then freestyle.....

[START]
mix afx or ae to..
boc or sq pusher to...
a skam record to
a warp record to
a rephlex record to
something not on skam/warp/rephlex to
a track with a digit in the title
freestyle
[20mins STOP]
