the head chef whacked on the standing on a beach singles
last week. im back into it now. brings me back almost ten
years, to when i was a gothic waste of space.

listening to this is a really enjoyable experience now, the
lovely insulated yet weightless sound of 'a forest',
'primary', and 'play for today' have been spot on train
riding material.

A++ The Cure are the best no doubt.
The forest, Oh yeah that bass is "lush" :P

Standing on the beach is probobly the best singles
compilation i've ever heard for any band.

Those might be my three favorite Cure tracks right there. I
love the spareness of those first few albums.

I like The Head on The Door

I also enjoy Three Imaginary Boys, their first album. It's
in a completely different style, like Joy Division-esque
post punk.

Can anyone who's heard "the cure" album tell me if it's
worth listening ? For someone who's a fan of Pornography,
Head on the door, and hates the trippy-hoppy Bloodflowers ?
What's your thoughts on it ??

Cheers and thansk for any quick and thoughtful response.

I grew up listening to them so its incredibly hard for me to
pick my favorite album, but I do tend to like their earlier
to mid material more so than their newer stuff, the acoustic
album was kind of cool, especially the version of love
cats...too much good stuff

I'm the same although I was really dissapointed with Wish
where it seems they produced "Friday I'm In Love" and the
rest of the album they forgot about.

Didn't really listen to newer stuff after that.

i'm listening to "Wish", getting really excited, going to
bump a thread about The Cure and ask HOW the fuck did they
come to recording the latest album. Smith is able to write
better songs, isn't he ? :/

Boys don't cry is my favorite song. I absolutely love the
sound of the guitar in that tracks. So solid and metallic.
Crunchy yet clean. I also love Roberts vocal melodies in
songs like this one. Just like heaven has that same almost
rap style.

I just saw them live on sunday for teh first time and after
having listened to them my whole life i can tell you that it
was one of the best live music experiences ive ever had.

robert still has it thats for sure.

they played lots of older stuff thank god and did some
extended versions of stuff that really gave you an
appreciation for the drumming.

I just read an article on how they did the drums on the
forest. They used c-ducer mics. Which are basically contact
mics. So, no room sound. No ambient noise. They sound more
like a drum machine as a result

They also really compressed the cymbals a fuck load. they
really seem to go on forever.

Seventeen seconds is probably my fave although
Disintegration i also fucking awesome.
