2nd one in a year has taken a shit on me. 3 days before a
show even...i start it up and it just blue-screens, i try to
boot from a recovery disc and it blue-screens, i take it to
a professional and it bluescreens and then he says my data
might not be recoverable

windows! what an irreedeemably fuck-faced platform to use;
no wonder macs cost so much more.

the cavemen must have had it good because, you know, if a
fucking bat wasn't heavy enough then you couldn't knock out
a pterodactyl or a stegasaurus with it and have lunch could
u. their tools kind of had this non-dependancy thing going
on, now we have fucking windows computers; the foremost
shit-munching hardware that can be found on this planet.

i don't know if you've heard the news already, but vista
won't be getting any better at all.
welcome to the apple world: aka "the happy few".

it probably isn't a windows things if it's that bad,
especially if your "data might not be recoverable", more
like a hard disk failure

my windows xp probably crashed only once since i use it (2
years) :p

windows based (non-apple) laptops. theyre just not made well
is his point.

although in fairness to non macs, i'd say that i
think toshiba's hold up fairly well. i havent used
them but i know that otto von schirach, richard devine, and
the flashbulb all use or have used them at one point or
another, i dont remember from the last show if benn had a
toshiba. just trying to be partisan, although i'd like to
say that i've had a G3 desktop since 99 or 00 and it still
works fine, although a bit slow.

I've been very happy with my first laptop for exactly a
month today.

I've never had any problems, although if I was a bit more
techie, I would probably go for a mac.

find macs insulting.

People who complain about windows-based laptop stability
normally don't have a clue about their system, and fill it
up with so much junk. I have had my laptop for about 16
months now, and it has never crashed once. And I run some
pretty intensive applications on it too. XP is a great
operating system, and coupled with a decent sony/ibm laptop,
its computer love.

BTW cygnus, if this "expert" says your data might not be
recoverable, the problem is most likely a hardware/hdd
fault, and not windows.

its easiest to blame microsoft for all your problems. even
if it isnt because of Windows, microsoft are still a bunch
of incompetant wankers.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2006-08-28 03:22 [#01960842]

A lot of the problems people have with their PC's comes from
incompatible third party softwares installed with packaged
systems from companies like dell. The solution? Not buying
packaged systems, or at least installing the OS for
yourself. Its pretty easy. Don't let future shop/best buy
tell you that its worthwhile to spend $50 having them
install it for you.

to my knowledge dells come with a reinstallation cd of
windows, at least the ones here at my work do
it says 'please store safely for future recovery of your
software if needed' though, so i can imagine people throwing
it out with the packaging ;)
