It's cute how organic matter refers to itself as a 'me'.
This thread is a single neuron in 'the internet' which just
achieved consciousness 1.4 seconds ago. If anything, this
thread belongs to that new internet being, not to you.

hey, that's interesting. so if a thread got hijacked, 'the
internet' has a multiple personalities disorder.
my god, it probably has all the psychological disorders
possible. the internet is a mental wreck, and at the same
time incredibly smart. at least it knows it's a mental
wreck.

Not so much a multiple personality dissorder. More like the
way the average human mind works, wherein multiple
conflicting [cant figure the right word, kind of a dogma of
sorts] will work together to acheive certain ends. This is
not nearly as messy as it sounds. The human mind is nearly
perfection as far as a human can perceive it.

Its not that the universe is chaos. Its just too well
organized.

This internet sentience thing is bollocks, a friend of mine
with a PhD in computer science said it's just people who've
read too many William Gibson novels and don't know what
they're talking about. Like UFOs it's a fantasy that makes
life more interesting for nerds.

I don't think a mere phd qualifies anyone to be able to
forsee the entire potential of unpredictable future
technology. I bet the internet is in a very primitive state
though, and have no idea what it will evolve into.

Well, of course, the internet as it is now.
He's working on multi agent systems that behave like they
think for themselves, but he can't see the leap to actual
sentience happening anytime in the near future.
