Quitting the booze....

offline swears from junk sleep on 2006-08-02 14:48 [#01948032]

....for a while at least.

I seem to have gotten into a rut with social drinking.
I'll go to the pub with my mates after work, have dinner
there and a couple of pints, this adds up to about 10 quid,
about two or three times a week.
Then, Friday and Saturday nights are spent getting
completely hammered on vodka and various cocktail pitchers,
these two nights cost about seventy quid between them. So
I'm spending nearly a hundred quid a week on the sauce.
(Living at home and working full time has it's
advantages...)
I haven't drank since Saturday (yeah, not long I know,) and
I'm already feeling better. I'm thinking of laying off the
booze 'til my birthday sep 3rd, then I can move out again,
and cut down the drinking to one night a week.

Anyone in a similar situation?

without smoking actually but that doesn't seem to be an
option

Yeah, I often smoke whilst drinking, it makes the hangover
twice as bad.
It's all such a shitty way of behaving, a really crap and
over-glamourised side of western life.
I don't even really get to go to decent club nights anymore
because "the drinks are too expensive" according to my
pisshead mates. So we end up going to shitty student/cheese
nights with cheap booze, and I end up getting pissed 'cause
it's all so depressing.

i'm finishing a 3rd beer cause i'm celebrating getting a
job....but i can understand you. about a week or so ago i
drank way too much , was dying the other day and promised
myself not to be as stupid in the future - it was too hot to
drink too much. sometimes a week off-booze seems very
healthy.

oyea smoking is bad
i don't know why i do it, i don't like it that much
i do it because im like 'fuck, who cares' the extra hangover
however should be a limiter however, maybe smoke less.

I never had any serious problem with drinking, but but
almost all of my mates enjoy getting drunk once in a while
(or often). Personally I hate the feeling of being stoned.
But it doesn't change the fact that it's our national sport.
Isn't it, Obi?

it depends. stoned vs drunk - i think the latter is better ,
in the long run.

i haven't tried shit stoned plus dead drunk* yet, so i'm not
an expert.

our national sport is getting dead drunk, going to a disco,
getting in a car full of chicks, killing everyone.

*or shit drunk and dead stoned ?

I'm proud of you for quitting. Pop Vibes is more important.
P.S. Need another submission?

Sure, but I only want to use one per member. That gives it a
bit more diversity.

Anyway, it's nothing to be proud of, it was easy. I feel
stupid for not sorting this out earlier. The £400 pounds I
save this month will be reward enough.

If you have a car then drive everywhere, give your mates
lifts etc. Much easier to not drink that way.

i go to pubs a lot but I only continue the drinking to
excess when it feels worth it cause otherwise you end
spending 30-40 quid on a shit night. And being the driver
occasionally is good way to not drink.

i workin a pub so drinking is way of life for me. usual
night is beers and then more beers and pringles back at a
mates house. i need to sort it out. right now i'm pretty
wasted. drinking is expensive & unhealthy.

than getting drunk. NO HANGOVER.
But I do *heart* the drink alot.

boozy yeah. buying booze from the liquor shop is a lot
cheaper. sneak it into the pub. my 'mates' and i usually
party at someone's flat then head off to town around
midnight. we get stoned too so usually it's a mixture of
both. alcohol and thc work well together (for some people,
others get what is known as 'greenies') - they seem to
strike a lovely a balance. i'm more often just stoned than
just drunk. getting drunk makes me want to smoke (ganja). so
smoking is inevitable. doing it in excess makes you slow.
after a few drinks and copious joints/bongs communication
slows and all that is left are unintelligible grunts shouts
and manic laughter. good times. i strike a good balance
between being fucked and sober. money is not really an
issue. alcohol is cheap(ish) and weed is cheaper.

Still on the wagon. Notice how I've been posting this
weekend.

Stayed in last night, watched all the "Kids in the Hall
videos on YouTube and listened to the first four Prince
albums. Made myself a nice big plate of chicken, brown rice
and runner beans with a dash of soy sauce and coarse black
pepper.
The ingreidents cost me three quid, a night out at least
thirty.
This is gonna be easier than I thought.

i've decided to be somewhat dry - definately cut it down to
one night a week. be responsible and you'll find it works
out a little better.

money-wise and addiction wise. its fun to go out with
friends now and then. they all drink, sometimes makes it
difficult :/
