I'm listening to it now at work. My copy is the 2cd limited
edition. It's a nice record to listen to while working and
it brings back a lot of memories... I can't believe that
it's been 12 years since this was released! This was so
state of the art and now I guess it's old school. Still, a
good chillout comp.

I don't understand how people could find Artificial
Intelligence 1 to be good and 2 to be crap (I've seen
critics saying that). I think AI1 is the one that sounds
dated. 2 is still pretty fine.. and the Autechre track
"Chatter" is fucking awesome!!!

there's a really kickass darrel fitton track on the ltd 3 x
lp version. the hidden scanner track on the second cd is
super as well.

i like both, but as stated, time has been more gentle to the
second than the first. warp should do a third installment

i wish i had the limted edition :(

but yeah, killer release for sure. when i first heard it (i
guess about 2002/2003) i honestly thought it was a brand new
warp compilation! could not believe it came out in 1994....

The Darrel Fitton track, is it Blipsalt? That is on the
double cd as well. It's my fave track on the album, along
with "chatter" by autechre..

did anyone get the video to go with this album? It was
called motion (vhs only)? It's got some great early nineties
computer graphic vids on.
Can't believe warp didn't inculde some of these vids on the
warp vision release in 04!

Yep, I have that tape... Last time I saw it - and that's a
looong time ago - it sort of made me laugh...I guess
graphics have progressed more than music... Still, it's a
fun little vhs to own. We used to come home from a night
out, get stoned and put this on and people would watch in
awe! Hahaha...

The early nineties, man...

I think Artfifical Intelligence II is kind of let down by
pisspoor "My Teapot", Higher Intelligence Agency didn't
really seem to fit in, nor Seefeel, Parasight is among my
least favourite Balil tracks.. I don't know, I know it's
more varied than the first one... but the first one...
timeless.

offline SlipDrinkMats from Thanks (Bhutan) on 2008-12-06 10:35 [#02257402]

I'd have stuck Metalurg on the normal comp as well rather
than an extra 12" with impossible to read label.

I guess it depends on how much you like Balil, but how can
you not like Parasight? Not only is it my favorite Trance
tune, but I have yet to hear a track with more impressive
303 programming (or is it a MC-202?)

For as much as I love AI 1 and 2, that's the standout track.

I'm going to listen to it again but I can't make
myself like it, as much as I respect and value your opinon.
I am prepared to concede that, yet again, I am wrong.

Listen to the black dog's - Psycosin for acids finest
moment.

offline revpersona from Plainfield (United States) on 2008-12-06 12:37 [#02257436]

If you don't like it, you don't like it. I'm not trying to
beat you into submission here lol. For me, it's the subtle
and clever use of the 303. Often times when you listen to
an Acid tune, people focus on the "hyperness" of it. They
just go all out full-force with it. I also love the Vocal
Chords in the song.

What's amazing to me, is you have someone who doesn't make
Trance music (you can argue Norte Route is Trance-esque)
come out with this and never scratch the surface again. A
lot of well-known producers realize the brilliance of the
tune, but I don't think many realize this was a one-time
deal. If nothing else - to me, this shows how insanely
talented Ed is.

I do love that bit of Acid, both from Spanners and Peel
Sessions. It is an insane piece, and I would venture a
guess that Ed did the 303 programming for that track too.
Like I said above for someone to be able to program a 303
better than others who have made a career out of it just
blows my mind. With Parasight though, it's that "less is
more" feeling with me. I love how the 303 isn't the main
focus of the track, yet in it's subtlety you can hear the
crazy detail.

Arcadian remix is a beauty - happens to be my second
favorite on here. Mark Pritchard needs to get a move on
with that Reload album.

Good grief, Parasight and Pyscosin are tremendous.

90's nostalgia blast:

motion is on youtube

Link - Arcadian (global communication remix) is probably a
top 3 all time track for me. (We get the first few minutes
of the track twice in this video.)
