Nice attitude!

(I don't smoke though, well, only the funky stuff)

I cut down and cut down and eventually stopped. Saying one
day "Ok Stop!!!!" didn't ever really work for me.

I know it is not easy to quit for people who actually smoke
(see dog_belch case for example)...

But I'd just recommend what Ezkerraldean said: don't start.

plus the fact you hate the people that already did, but
somehow you forgot to tell us, actually, why you do ?
reasons, my dear child, are obvioulsy beyond the scope of
your logis processes.

btw, i stopped smoking half a year ago.

recommending not starting smoking to a smoker is a bit late
in the day, no?

Check out the banners man! They're useful sometimes.

K300i: I mostly hate my friends for that, just because they
think to appear cooler towards girls and some other silly
things. But also those people who smoke near me, they
usually get on my nerves.

oyvinto: Nah, I've already heard that many times, it won't
work with me. i can be much cooler without cigs.

Well, I hate them when they act in that way. They're also
nice and friendly. Anyway my best friends don't smoke,
therefore I've not many problems with them.

force-feeding yourself, except the opposite i guess? youre
force-un-smoking yourself. took me a month really to
convince myself i didnt ever want a cigarette again

cheww loads of gum.

It's not going to be easy at all. Your body is chemically
aswell as phycologically dependant on ciggarettes. Nicotine
has completely fucked up your blood sugar levels, so that
you need nicotine ie. ciggarettes every time your blood
sugar levels fall. It's also interfereing with your nervous
system pathways, ie. its blocking you nurotransmitter
receptors meaning your brain is being dictated by the
nicotine itslef.

It'll take at least a month to completely get rid of the
chemical hooks to nicotine in your body. In the first week
you will definately have mood swings, it might be as bad as
fevers and general flu-like symptoms (minus the blocked nose
and sneezing). Don't get into the common probem (after
quitting) which is to replace smoking with another
addiction. Why do you think most smokers who quit end up
fat, eating is an easy replacement to smoking.

Also do you really want yellow fingers for the rest of your
life?

Quit now, get help and don't relapse. Seriously, in 20 years
time the heightened risks of cancer will have receded back
to a non-smoker's level. Most of this risk is gone by the
10th year of quitting.

Any way good luck.

ok thanks. but the reason ex-smokers get fat is because
smoking supresses your appetite.

smoke about 5 cigarettes a year.

I've never even touched a cigarette. Like I can't recall
even physically coming into contact with one.

My mom has quit smoking about 30 times, the nicotine gum
seems to work for her, but she always relapses. But the gum
is an option.

i don't mind the smell of smoke if i'm in a pub, club, bar,
rave etc. (infact i come to expect there to be a fog of
smoke when i go to these places, its all part of the
experience) or if im with my friends who are smoking. But i
can safely say i've never touched a ciggartte nor have i
ever wanted one. If i end up being around people i dont like
or i don't know and who are smoking, then i just move away.
It's harder for smokers to move somwhere else than for
non-smokers to do so.

It's all factor of will-power and self respect. If you've
accepted smoking as being a bad thing but still enjoy it and
are willing to take the consequences, then by all means
carry on and don't take any shit from anyone about being a
bad person for smoking. But if you don't like the smell of
smoke, the taste of tar and the effects of smoking then you
owe it to yoursef to give up.

tell yourself you can have one a day, and only one a day..
and smoke it before you go to bed at night.

that way the option is still there, you have something to
look forward to during the day, it's not a complete mental
withdrawal, and after you smoke it there's no time for the
craving to return because you're unconscious.

after a few days maybe you'll lose interest.

I'm unable to get this habit. There were times when I would
smoke 10 cigarettes a day for a week and after that I would
just forget to buy a new pack.

r40facts about
smoking

- smoking is cool. it looks cool; it is a great part of
"teenage rebellion". it gives you something to do with your
hands and helps you meet interesting people.

- i don't give a fuck if you quit or not. you did this to
yourself. shut up and go away.

- smoking kills people. sometimes not fast enough.

- it's just not the same going to rock clubs and not being
able to smell that overwhelming cigarette/pot smoke
combination choking the life out of you. this is bad for
atmosphere, but good for breathing.

- can i bum a smoke?

- yeah, gimme a quarter.

- thanks for nothing, pops.

- fuck off and get a job, punk!

- i don't care what anyone says, i like the smell of old
cigarette smoke in a jacket. you come home saturated with
that and it smells comforting.

- the best place to smoke without the teachers catching you
is on the rail trail behind the teacher's parking lot. you
walk into the woods towards that old guy's house who
complains about kids smoking in front of his house. the
janitors rarely go out there.

- smoking is glamorous and romantic, but it is also
disgusting and makes me sick and at least put it in the
ashtray before you fall asleep i don't want the sheets to
catch fire.

- germs burn. fact.

- "come out with me while i have a cig." "sure, man."
"cool."

- you shouldn't smoke cigarettes.

- sometimes smoking helps you sing better, sometimes worse.
it depends.

- zippo lighters are still cool, imo. but they are not
lucky.

- cloves are weird.

- i don't smoke.

thanks for reading r40facts, my new column on
ziltyzine.

What I don't get is how smokers put up with the incredibly
bad breath.

On the other hand I love the voice of Kristin Hersh, and she
sounds like she's been smoking since conception.

smokes helps to control the breathe.
can be stimulating or relaxing...like chocolate and
lettuce.

nature is big and we can eat it and smoke it.
-i like what imdex says, huhu! its reality that many people
smokes cause some celebs smoke, cancer will catch you
if you smoke without a will-

Yeah that's right. But my advise is, if you can avoid to
start.. it's better. And come on, it's not that hard. Lots,
I say lots of people asked me to try it out, but my answer
has always been "no, thanks".
