Has anyone read the first graphic novel?

I'm just about to go and buy it. As you can understand I'm
kind of exited by this whole movie/graphic novel thing.

I just went to the comic book store and the "big box" book
store; niether of which had the book. I would have thought
this would have been a big sci-fi geek thing.

Or for that matter, sparked a little interest here!

i can't be bothered to watch a stupid flash intro to figure
out what's going on. it's so 2002.

i've not read the graphic novels but i have just watched the
movie and it is 150 minutes of wtf/lol amazement.

the fact that this thread is 2 years old and nobody has
spoken about this project since shows that some of the best
stuff goes unnoticed.

How weird, I saw this yesterday. Wasn't great but was
definitely interesting. The idea of it being a filmed
version of the book of revelations is good. Interesting
turns by some of the actors. Overall good 6/10

i want to see this so bad

The fact that so many critics hate it viscerally makes me
all the more excited!

It's not good as in Donnie Darko good, but there are some
cool moments. Love the scene with the Ice cream truck
floating up and the guy standing there with his RPG.

The acting is horrible.

are you joking?

do you think the director would let a project of this scale
get messed up by bad acting?

the main characted reads his lines in exagerated
'superhero/actor' style because thats how it fits the part
perfectly.

i believe everything is intentional in this movie. every
actor, every camera angle, every detail. It was one of the
few things apparent to me right from the start.

now, 010101, have you seen it yet?

I havn't seen it yet, I want to read the Graphic novels
before hand and just haven't had the chance.

I will give you a full report when I get round to it.

does any director set out to make an incoherent mess with
poor performances?

for me, this entire film fell completely flat. there wasn't
attention to detail so much as a unwieldy overabundance of
details.

the rock's performance was not the cartoonish action hero,
it was the clueless actor who doesn't understand his
character. the lazy shorthand for his character's anxiety
(when he would lift his hands up and furiously tap his
fingertips together) was especially egregious.

i wanted to like this film, and was entirely sympathetic to
its themes and perspective and indebtedness to philip k dick
("flow my tears").

i'm not trying to change your mind; hopefully we can agree
to disagree.

certainly, by all means, yes.

I'm not talking about the intentional stiff lines and
posing. Why they would hire The Rock in the first place
confused me. He's just horrible when he's not doing the
comic stuff.

i actually thought the casting of the rock was excellent,
but the other guy who played liutentant ronald daggat or
whever his name was the guy with the 'twin' was fucking
awful. the thing about him in fallujah was way too heavy
handed and overwrought to take seriously.

***Spoilers***

I really liked Donnie Darko. So you can imagine how excited
I was about this movie coming out. While waiting I saw that
Domino movie Richard Kelly wrote. I didn't care for it, and
thought he just wrote it, and maybe the director, editor or
somebody just messed it up.

So, how do you follow up a movie about a time traveler?
With another movie about time travel. I like the concept
but was expecting something different and epic...

The cast line up really had me goin...comedians in serious
roles sounded very interesting. While I admire the
ambition...there were just way too many characters & too
many stories/subplots to follow. I like complexity, but
there's a line.

This guy was literally trying to shovel/shove as many
references as possible into this movie...The dialog lines,
and specifically the ones that were lifted lyrics from
songs, made me laugh out loud...there's a reason why they're
sung. When the midget from Poltergeist started reciting the
lyrics from a Pornos for Pyros song I almost pee'd my pants
laughing.

"Have a nice Apocalypse" really? Who the fuck says that?

I have to agree with the one statement above about Stifler
being cast in this movie. Anyone could have played that
part. Here's your motivation, your confused...odd things
are happening...go.

I know I'm picking this movie apart but, there were things I
did enjoy from it, and I might watch it one more time on DVD
just to hear the commentary or see the theatrical cut.

But I think that you've acknowledged your movie is a big
mess if you have to release 3 or 6 graphic novels that you
have to read in order to remotely understand what the fuck
is happening on the screen. To me its just saying to the
audience hey, this movie sucks, so we're going to milk you
before hand since we know you won't buy the 20 different
editions of the DVD's later on.

I'm going to give the guy another chance since I was the one
that got suckered into the hype of this movie. I just hope
his next one isn't abo
