Posted through all the doors in my parents road on the Wirral: Dear Neighbour, I have just taken the bad news today from a local vet that our family pet died last night as a result of being shot by an air gun. Whether this has been deliberate or accidental I am really concerned that there is someone in the neighbourhood who not only owns such dangerous and pointless piece of equipment but is not responsible in using it. A cat today - it might be an old person or somebody's child tomorrow. I have, previously, experienced the horror of having my youngest son hit on the head by a pellet from a BB gun, 1 inch lower and it would have put his eye out. This might be someone's idea of fun but it could have dangerous consequences. If you have witnessed anyone in the area messing with an air gun can you please repoet them to the police especially if you have seeen them targeting a cat this week. I have been told by the police that they will follow up any such incident particularly if they think it is a child/teenager that is using one of these guns. Lastly can I appeal to anyone who owns one of these guns to get rid of it! There really is no need for a gun outside of a rifle range. I really hope this has been an accident and not a deliberate act. it has been very upsetting for my family to lose a favourite pet, it would be even harder to accept the loss if it turned out to be a callous and cruel bit of entertainment for the shooter. The idea of some little gimp shooting a cat with an air rifle is so petty it's funny. It's harsh on the family though, they're nice, quiet people. |

You should deliver this letter: Dear Neighbour, As some of you will be painfully aware some one in our neighbourhood has been training gangs of cats to attack and kill small birds and rodents. I hate to resort to violence but recently a maverick cat crept into my garden. Seeing it was up to no good, I had no choice to get my 6 year old's air rifle and shoot it.
