is it actually worth reading/watching?

is it popular because it is good, or just because the
catholic church/america/etc. is scared of it?

i prefer books, but film must be fun

it is popular because the people wants to know the THRUTH
and in this books are some revelations that to medium
people
are hard to find. The Church will decay soon.

The book was very popular. People in America weren't scared
of it then. But the format of film changes that obvilously.
I think only zealots are "scared" of this story. America as
a whole can give less than a shit about it. I'm sure
religous fanatics in Europe/England are raising a stink
about it as well. No?

The book's entertaining, but that's all...

And for the movie, dunno... But I hate Tom Hanks...

My gf absolutely hates it (the book) with a passion, she
thinks it's a disgrace that something so poorly written can
be hailed as a masterpiece.

no one really seems to care over here, relision over here is
usually of the half-hearted watered-down variety. i heard
there were big protests in india about it

Yes, I think, because Muslims (i think they are Muslims over
there) are very "serious" about their beliefs. People died
and buildings burned with those comics of Mohamed (sp?). Who
knows what will happen with this?

He's seen as a prophet by Islam. It was them that got so
upset about the Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie (shit book
by the way- don't believe it's any good/buy it just because
of the controversy) and made him go into hiding, even though
it was Christians who should have been more upset by it. As
Ezkerraldean says, bit of a watered down variety of religion
in Europe, particularly in the UK.

they say that this and harry potter are "novels for people
who don't read novels" and its true. theyre probably the
only books my mum has ever read

I thought reading the book was like watching a trashy but
very entertaining film, so if they havent managed to turn it
into a trashy but very entertaining film then ron howard is
a cunt

it is a really poor book. it is just like watching a run of
the mill blockbuster peice of poo. reminds me of harry
potter:

he walked in the room. he noticed the crack on the floor. he
began to wonder what dr bellsmoker had said to him just days
before. look at the floor. look at the floor, the big secret
is in the floor. slowly he began to look at the floor some
more. it was all really exciting and tense. no it wasnt.
shut up.

Most people don't read books for enlightenment. They may
think they do, but people would rather have someone tell
them they are thinking and give them a bit of trivia. If a
book is a best seller, its rarely because it deserves to be
read, so much as it gives people a simple story with a
couple basic plot twists.

I enjoyed the book. Although it occured to me about half way
through, that if they did manage to prove or find the blood
line of Jesus, it would not change the views of the Church.
There are Christians who do not believe in evolution because
it is written in a different way in Genesis.

The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie isn't a shit book, not
his best but certainly better than the Da Vinci Code.

Catholics are not the religious American Christian zealots.
Catholics in the usa are like Catholics in any western
country. Probably less religious than the ones you would
find in Italy. It's the regular, less formal Christians,
younger churches that are the Bush supporters and the people
you are afraid of. Not the thousand year old Catholic
church. Most Catholics are more concerned with being good
catholics than good people.

weren't bad enough it's based on a piece of shit novel based

that fucking Erich von Daniken with his fucking Egyptian

It seems everyone can't understand why christians are upset

hahah ok so I went and there were protesters standing at the
edge of the movie theater property (they won't let them
protest on the property thank god). But of course they still
had their signs with pictures of Geesus and were chanting
some crap by the road. I just rolled my window down and told
them to 'get a life'. I then ran home and posted about it on
an internet msgboard.

Oh and the movie was so-so. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.

It's kinda hard to hate a movie with Ian McKellen, Jean
Reno, Tom Hanks. There all so adorable. And Audrey Tautou
was lookin kinda fuckable through most the movie. Or maybe I
was just horny. I didn't read the book but I'd imagine that
if i did i might have found the movie boring only because I
know what's going to happen in the plot next.

it was a very poorly written book and it's in no way "a work

script. it's no wonder then that this got filmed.

i heard that the major complaints were due to tom hanks

While the book is put down by many because of the blatant
text of disproving that jesus christ was an actual immortal
being, the fact is that is alot of what Brown talks about in
the book is actual truth. The holy grail while may not be
infact mary magdaline but it is a supported believe that is
another way of looking at religion and christ, just as
christianity and any other religion their is no ACTUAL PROOF
that any of these saviors where who they were or if they
were just made up to be these entities over time, fact of
the matter is no one from those era's is alive today and we
only can go by ancient text's to make us think what we want
to think, the books interested reguardless, its meant to
make you think. Brown didn't write it to piss off christians
and have people question their faith, its a FICTIONAL novel
and should be treated as thus.

Garth's review at darkhorizons stated a main complaint being
that it is just too boring. too talky and heavy handed
basically. He mentioned that a previous book "angels and
demons" or something would have made a much better movie.
but of course it didn't sell nearly as well as a book so
that's a no brainer for Hollywood.
