I just noticed that one of the channels here was going to send "The Office" later tonight and at first I thought "oooo!"
but then I read the text and it said "American comedy show." At first I thought it was just some misspelling, but then I read on further and discovered that some americans have made a remake of The Office?!?! What the fuck? I can partly understand when it's a non-english thing, but remaking something where the language is english from the start?!
Has anyone seen it, and is it any worth spending even a second on?

The first episode was a complete travesty. It really didn't work copying everything almost line by line. When they rewrote the rest of the series however, even though it wasn't amazing, it was pretty good stuff.

The ones I've seen were pretty good - impressed, especially seeing as there was a 99% likelihood that it would suck hard. Apparently Steve Merchant and Ricky are writing an episode for the next season.

If its the first one in the series, I think that was the pilot where they adapted one of the original episodes, I think the rest of the series is all orginal.

the english one is so much better than the american one.. this alone makes the american one utter shit in my opinion - if the american one had been the first to come around, it'd have been alright.. but since it's a remake.... it really doesn't do the idea justice.

I saw the first ep of U.S. version first... my bad. I enjoyed it, but seeing the U.K. version, and Ricky Gervais, puts Steve Carell in perspective. Yes, the U.K. version is many times better.
The U.S. version is recommended for only those who have already seen both two seasons of the U.K. version, plus the Christmas Specials. It's a dessert, not main meal.

Seems like when human actors are involved they choose the safe bet for money and ratings in the usa. Sometimes flukes will pop up like Seinfeld, but cartoons is where we shine cause it isn't entirely motivated by money in the creation process. Lot of follow the formula on American TV, apart from cartoons..I could have it all wrong though.

Oh, and I've heard TV execs say the uk is a testing ground for ratings and choosing what shows to remake for money. Perfect example is American Idol, which is hugely successful and crap, which is predictable.

This is a great show. I love the brit verison of course, but I didn't expect the American one to be as good. And I think it might be. I think I saw the first episode and got turned off. Glad I checked it again. They should doa show with the two offices getting together. They could just make fun of the Yanks the whole time like they would do in real life.
