Exactly, if you legalize drugs, you at least de-criminalize them and you can control what is being used. I know a lot of people dying or really fucking themselves up by using dirty heroin. If it was legal and had to pass severe tests before hitting the racks, at least this aspect would be improved. As for the rest, people should really be responsible for what they do: you drive drunk, you lose your licence. The same could apply to heroin etc.

meho thats another point! the health control in drug is very important at the moment the cut them with worse stuff than the drug it self
in holand (again) you can have your drug tested to see if they are ok or not
by the way the heroin case is abit more difficult to treat than that

I don't use drugs, and have no wish to, I don't think they'd do anything for me. But I have some friends who really love heroin, and even prefer synthetic drugs like methadone and throdone. I mean, they don't have the money to be proper adicts, but really LOVE to do these things when they can. Now, each of them is a potential convict if the police gets the tip or accidently runs in them. Also, any of them could die of dirty heroin. Legalisation would settle this. But how that would affect our whole community I don't know. But if alcohol is legal, why should heroin be ilegal, it kills faster if anything, it's less of a social problem and by having it legalised you could have clear records on users and would know if any of them could pose any kind of threat to the society.
By the way, cars kill more people than heroin, wars or aids (at least in the west) but they' re not only legal but the whole system is based on their existance (read DeRougemont about this).

saying fuck drugs is as one-dimensional as saying all niggers are filthy animals. Drugs do different things to different people. Some handle them well, some don't, and some, again lose or gain control with time... I was never interested in taking drugs, but I can't agree that everyone taking them has a problem. That's typical social-marketing propaganda. A large number of people taking drugs have a problem if you judge them from your own social frame, and that's OK as long as you don't consider it to be the only relevant social frame there is.

I don't care if people do them. I don't assume anyone who does drugs has a problem or something. But they're better off without them, I wish they'd find a better way to entertain themselves. Dividing the people I know into DRUG USERS and NON DRUG USERS, it's painfully obvious who the stupider half is (with exceptions, obviously).

OK, call me ignorant. But I know far too many people who take drugs and have very little else in their lives. All of my no drug-using friends are far more dynamic individuals, with much more about them. Drugs are bad for the soul and will eat away at you. And I don't think there's any avoiding that if you take them on a regular basis. I'm not asking you to agree with me, it's just my opinion. I think that people who take drugs frequently tend to me more boring and suffer far more problems with their personality.

But I agree with Nacmat, music is kind of a drug for me: I have a habit, I have a regular need, I spend most of my money on it, I talk about it most of my waking hours and that's about the only topic I'm interested in, I have withdrawal symptoms when detached from music, I used to steal to buy misuc, I frequently don't eat just to save money that I spend on music, I need to listen to music even when it doesn't seem to give me any pleasure... The same description goes for drugs.

Oh yeah, music is MY drug. It's all I care about, I'm addicted, and I'd kill myself if I didn't have it. I need it! Stimulates my brain enough, I don't need chemicals when I have sound waves invading my ears.
I don't pay for it anymore, though... the internet is my drug dealer, and it pumps me full of MP3s.

I think Ophecks has got it right about drugs.......they do just amplify personality flaws. Yeah, SOME people have been creative on them, but not many. It hardly justifies the lives that are wasted on drugs. And I don't just mean people dying. So many people waste their lives by just smoking weed. It makes people so lethargic, dull and happy-to-do-nothing.

jesus, how the fuck do you know that "not many" are more creative on drugs? my old friends and i regularly took acid and created music, taro cards, qabbalistic pathways, magickal theories... drugs can open up your mind, make you think on a higher level - we are not talking about skank or crank or angel dust here, but the tried and tested psychadelics -- haven't you seen the countercultural research? i would say a nation of trippers grokking and tripping on life would be a better place than a nation of tv-addicted zombies imbibing the stinking corpse of media/corporate controlled government.
most of the psychic ills in this world are not down to amplified character flaws, but the amplified malaise of the deathly society we have been shit into - heal society and we heal ourselves.

I only took cannabis because everyone says it makes music sound better. But then they force me to listen to smashing pumpkins (which i find dull) so it seems almost pointless.
On the debate, drug illegalisation is reletively new, old cultures had it as a main trade comodity, sort of like food or animals or humans. The aztec culture is based on peyote.
