You know, you can buy an adapter to put your laptop hard
drive in a desktop computer as a slave so you can copy your
shit over.

Unless the hard drive died too...?

as far as i can tell the motherboard is fried. it used to be
i could press it and it'd come on for a few seconds even if
the battery was completely dead. now there are no lights or
anything. the little node/cylinder thing behind the actual
plug EXPLODED and burned with white fire. im confident ill
be able to recover the data but if i can't, im gonna need
all of you guys' help. im talking all the AE live sets you
have, unreleaseds shit, FLACS, its all gone if my HD got
fried in the process. thats like at least 15 gig of
unreleads AE i am gonna need to recover, and ill know what
im missing cause the folder trees basically imprinted in my
brain, ill have none of it if the HD ate shit (30gb)

looking at gettin one of these:

compaq presario V500T or whatever

What model? I'm not a big fan of Toshiba or anything, but I
heard their Tecra line was good. The satellite and qosmio,
not so much.

that suxx. i think the hd should be ok so you'll be able to
recover the data more/less easily.

personally i do not know much about laptops and their
problems except i've seen with my own eyes how a friend had
slipped on icy stairs and landed on his laptop, breaking
that screen ($600 minimum to replace).

That sucks.. hope you will recover it all. I myself always
work with audio on an external drive (feels more reliable)
and I have an second external drive for backup + burning
dvd's with the most important bits from time to time. I have
never had an crash of any sort though, but I really fear it,
it seems very common =/
